"Where are we going to find food so late at night?" I glanced at Karl, who was driving earnestly. There was a clear disdain in my expression towards him. We lived in such a nice apartment, yet the only thing in the fridge was instant noodles.

Karl ignored my complaints completely, still wearing a gentle smile. "I won't let you go hungry, that's for sure!"

My lips twitched slightly as I looked at his tender expression. Despite wanting to get angry, I couldn't find the space for it. After a moment, I shifted my gaze to the window. It was late at night, with very few vehicles on the road. We passed by a street full of eateries, most of which were closed. Only a dumpling shop remained open, but there wasn't a single customer inside. The middle-aged owner stood at the door, looking around as if waiting for someone.

"Here we are!" Karl parked the car by the roadside, smiling.
