"Thank you," Lucia muttered to Michael as Michael handed her a flute of wine he had picked up from a passing tray.
He smiled at her and then offered her his free arm. She rested her hand over his bent elbow, and the pair walked across the room to join their group. Their parents and siblings, except Adela, were together.
"I think Adela and Gustav will certainly make a good match," Queen Miriam was saying. "Gustav has never been as gentle with anyone as he is with Adela. At least not in years."
Josephine seemed to preen at the words. Lucia narrowed her eyes at her mother. She knew that look. It was the look she had when Caroline and Alex were getting engaged. It was the look that screamed it was her idea. Maybe she was being too suspicious of her.
"The party is well done," Josephine said as she looked around, "But it's not Adela's style at all."
Caroline made a face as she replied, "The Lady Vogel toiled all week to put it together."
