"Shouldn't you have more doctors or interns on duty?" Lauren's voice rose in annoyance, her frustration palpable as she surveyed the emergency room. Only one bewildered intern stood among a sea of chaos, and it was a weekend—a time when the hospital often faced an influx of patients. "You know a lot can happen on weekends!"

 

Jules glanced around, realizing Lauren was right. It had been a long time since she had heard her voice rise in exasperation. She had half-expected her to start berating the nurses for their perceived shortcomings. But today, the nurses were working diligently, their professionalism shining through the madness.

 

"Thank God these nurses are competent!" Lauren continued, her tone sharp. "If they weren't, I'd be having a much harder time helping that poor boy!" Her voice echoed through the ER, and Jules's eyes widened in surprise at the intensity of her frustration.
