Chapter 64: Finding Out

"Watch out!" Peter, being closer to Debra, quickly pulled her aside while Maverick dodged in the opposite direction.

Bang!

A table flew out of the rest room, smashing the door to pieces and landing in the lab area outside.

Looking through the broken door, they saw a large figure crouching on the window sill. On its shoulder, it carried a huge bundle wrapped in cloth, the contents of which were unknown.

After throwing the table, the figure turned its scarlet eyes on them before leaping out the window.

'The Lizard! How is he here at the school' Both Maverick and Peter had the same thought. They hadn't expected the bad feeling they had sensed to be about the Lizard.

Shouldn't this guy be lurking around the subway station near the sewer? Why did he suddenly come to their school and invade Dr. Connors' lab?

Seeing the Lizard jump out the window, Maverick rushed to the window but, after careful observation, couldn't find any trace of him. He had no idea how the Lizard had managed to escape after jumping down.

"Oh my God! That was terrifying! What was that thing? Its eyes were like a devil's!" Debra was clearly shaken, her voice trembling.

Peter knelt beside her, trying to comfort her, "Don't worry, he's gone now."

"What was that thing he had on his shoulder? Did either of you get a clear look?" Maverick asked, returning from the window.

Peter frowned and said, "It seemed to be wrapped very tightly. I couldn't see what it was. Some kind of equipment?"

"Could it be Dr. Connors?!" Debra exclaimed in fear and disbelief.

She had been wondering why Dr. Connors wasn't in the lab, and now it seemed he had been taken by that creature.

"From the shape, it didn't quite look like him," Maverick recalled. "But whatever that creature took, it's certainly related to Dr. Connors."

"I don't know where Dr. Connors might be right now. I remember his home address. I'll head over there and check things out," Peter said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

"Maverick, you stay here with Debra. The police might come by to investigate soon."

Understanding that Peter was trying to divert him so he could look for Dr. Connors alone, Maverick simply nodded without saying anything.

After Peter left, Maverick planned to find an excuse to slip away and follow him to Dr. Connors' house.

Once outside the lab building, Peter found a secluded spot to change into his Spider-Man suit.

As he swiftly swung through the city, his mind replayed the experiments he had conducted with Dr. Connors.

---

"It's incredible, Peter. Did you see that? I just introduced a bit of lizard DNA into this mouse and performed a new gene recombination, and its severed limb grew back," Dr. Connors said excitedly, watching the lively mouse in the cage.

Just minutes before, the mouse had only three legs. In such a short time, a new leg had grown from the stump, fully functional and without any discomfort.

Peter was equally astonished and thrilled, "I can hardly believe my eyes. This is amazing."

Dr. Connors took the mouse in his hand for a closer look before handing it back to Peter.

"This is just the beginning," Dr. Connors continued. "Imagine if we could apply this technology to humans. Those with disabilities would gain new life, and many currently incurable diseases would be solved."

As he spoke, he touched the empty right sleeve with his left hand—a reminder of his own dream.

---

Swinging through another street, Peter pushed the memories aside, thinking, "Someone is coveting this incredible technology, stealing it to create a monster."

"I can't let this get any worse," he resolved.

From a rooftop, Maverick watched Peter swinging between buildings.

Once the distance seemed manageable, Maverick used his enhanced abilities, leaping from one rooftop to another with remarkable ease, thanks to Venom's augmentation.

"The idiot's picking up speed; we need to move faster too," Venom urged Maverick as they progressed through the city, quickly arriving at a house.

Lights were still on inside the house, indicating someone was moving around. Many photos hung from the trees in the yard, depicting what seemed to be a family of three.

While Maverick observed the surroundings, Peter had already entered the house.

As Peter pushed the door open and stepped inside, a massive lizard carrying a woman jumped out of the window.

A young boy sat on the ground, crying and trying to stop the lizard-man but hesitating to approach.

"Damn it!" Peter cursed under his breath, shooting out a web to try and stop the lizard-man.

However, the lizard-man was prepared and effortlessly intercepted the web with a pot he grabbed, throwing it at Peter.

Just as Peter started to panic, Maverick suddenly descended from above, kicking the lizard-man aside.

He caught the woman the lizard-man was carrying and gently placed her on the ground. "Are you okay, ma'am?"

This middle-aged woman with brown hair, who looked gentle, was likely Dr. Connors' wife. Fortunately, Maverick intervened in time to prevent a tragedy.

"Martha..." the lizard-man's mouth moved, managing to utter a name clearly.

Mrs. Connors, who had just steadied herself, covered her face in grief upon hearing the lizard-man's cry.

"Please, don't hurt him. Curt, he didn't mean to harm me," Mrs. Connors pleaded with Maverick.

"Wait, what's going on? What did you say that monster's name was? Curt? Curt Connors?" Maverick was also shocked by Mrs. Connors' plea.

This lizard-man turned out to be Dr. Connors. What on earth was happening? Did he experiment on himself?

Meanwhile, Peter also jumped out of the window with the child in his arms. He had heard Mrs. Connors' words, and the young boy had just claimed that the lizard-man was his father.

Seeing Venom and Spider-Man, the lizard-man gave up on taking his wife and simply turned and left the scene.
