Chapter 66: Lizard Minions

Using his powerful jumping ability, Maverick leaped directly from the tunnel towards Lizard's location.

His sharp claws gleamed with a metallic luster, and if they struck Lizard squarely, it would undoubtedly leave a gaping wound.

Lizard reacted quickly. As he saw Maverick lunging at him, he swung his thick tail forcefully while carefully placing the equipment back at a safe distance, clearly wary of damaging it.

The thick tail whooshed through the air with immense force, aimed at Maverick.

Maverick showed no fear, landing lightly on the ground before swinging his claws to slash the tail into several pieces, leaving it a bloody mess.

The severed tail enraged Lizard, causing him to roar in pain and fury. However, his healing rate seemed to have accelerated; the tail quickly healed and regenerated with each breath.

"As time goes on, he's becoming more lizard-like. This might become irreversible soon," Maverick thought grimly, noticing Lizard enhanced abilities. It indicated that the human part of Dr. Connors' genes was being increasingly suppressed.

"Damn you! You keep coming back!" Lizard cursed hoarsely at the sight of Maverick.

Hearing such clear curses, Venom quipped to Maverick, "I thought he could only hiss, but his speech is improving even as his genetic condition worsens."

"No shit. His physical abilities and traits are becoming less human, but his mind seems sharper. Didn't you see how he's got all the necessary equipment ready?" Maverick responded.

An enraged Lizard charged at Maverick, perhaps realizing that he needed to eliminate him to continue his plans.

As he fought Lizard, Maverick noticed the specific changes. Lizard's scales and muscles had become more robust and thicker, his movements swifter, and his claws sharper.

Even his regenerative ability had become astonishingly powerful. No matter how deep a wound Maverick inflicted, it would start healing almost immediately.

'Damn! His recovery rate is starting to surpass mine!' Maverick thought, knowing that with Venom, his own healing ability was top-notch. Yet, Lizard was pushing his limits.

"Get lost!" Lizard yelled, using his tail for a sneak attack during their hand-to-hand combat.

The blow sent Maverick flying into a wall, creating a large crater in the stone.

But Maverick quickly rebounded, launching himself off the wall with several black, metallic-looking tendrils trailing behind him.

He had been trying to subdue Dr. Connors without causing fatal harm, but it was clear now that he couldn't hold back.

With Dr. Connors' current regenerative abilities, even a killing blow might not be effective.

"Sorry, Doc, but it looks like I'll have to make some holes in you," Maverick muttered as he charged.

His claws left gashes on Lizard, hindering his counterattacks, while his tendrils acted like stealthy assassins, ready to pierce his limbs.

With a flash of black light, Maverick's tendrils seized an opportunity and pierced Lizard-Man's left hand and right leg.

Other tendrils left deep, bone-revealing wounds.

Lizard roared in pain and, using his unharmed right arm, slammed a button on the control panel.

As the button was pressed, all the cages holding the hostages along the walls were released.

Maverick was initially puzzled by this, but reality quickly provided an answer.

Pairs of bright red eyes appeared in the openings, and beastly roars and growls echoed through the underground space.

"He's already turned the hostages into lizards!" Venom said gravely.

Fighting and responding simultaneously, Maverick replied, "I thought he was just about to start converting the hostages, but it turns out he's already finished."

With thuds, lizard minions dropped from the wall openings and gathered on the central platform from the surrounding water.

Their eyes were fixed on Maverick, filled with a murderous intent to tear him apart.

Though their bodies weren't as massive as the lizard form of Dr. Connors, they were still much larger than an average human.

Some of the faster lizard minions climbed onto the central platform and quickly pounced on Maverick, claws slashing and mouths gaping to tear him apart.

At this moment, Maverick was locked in fierce combat with Lizard, and he had Lizard severely disadvantaged.

Lizard could only move one leg and his tail freely; the rest of his limbs were pierced and restrained by Maverick's tendrils.

The attacking lizard minions were repeatedly beaten back by Maverick's tendrils and counterattacks.

As time passed, more and more lizard minions climbed up.

Some attacked Maverick, while others, for some reason, lunged at Lizard.

They opened their toothy maws and swung their sharp claws, biting and clawing at Lizard.

Blood splattered everywhere, staining the entire platform with Lizard's blood.

Maverick was stunned by this scene. He couldn't understand why the lizard minions were attacking Lizard so viciously.

His confusion was soon resolved when Lizard-Man, now bitten and bleeding profusely, tore off his own limbs to free himself from Maverick's control.

The lizard minions' attack was actually Lizard's plan. He had been pinned by Maverick's tendrils through his arms and legs.

To escape quickly, he resorted to this gruesome but effective method.

After breaking free, Lizard swiftly distanced himself from the central platform and commanded the lizard minions to surround and attack Maverick, giving himself time to heal.
