Madeline Rose had only ever worked in her father's local blacksmith shop and occasionally helped her mother at the farm. Her skin had become tanned from the hot sun, but despite all of this, she did not complain. Even though she didn't come from a wealthy home, she was content. 



However, her life turned upside down when she stumbled upon a darkness that refused to leave her alone. 




There was him, a man cloaked in mystery and malice, a presence that sent chills down her spine. His eyes, shrouded in shadows, held a depth of darkness that seemed to swallow the light around him. 





When their paths crossed, Madeline felt a cold dread wash over her, as if she had invited a malevolent force into her world.

The Devil's Embrace

At the ball, as soon as the king departed with his queen, the dance continued, but murmurs and whispers filled the air. Among the attendees were Mrs. Sophia's daughters, seated and gazing at the departing king and queen, ignoring their mother's penetrating stare.

"Dear Mother," Hyacinth began, "did you know the king is this young and handsome?"

Their mother rolled her eyes and took a sip of the rich wine in an exquisite glass she wished she could afford. In this moment, she longed to shatter the glass into pieces. In just one day, Madeline's life, and even that of her fellow woman, Catherine, has change for the better: fine wine, luxurious food, elegant clothing, and entry into a wealthy society far from the village.
