56 The King Is Coming

Emilia's POV

Klaus walked forward without looking back until he settled into his seat. It was only then that I realized I was still tightly gripping Klaus's arm.

The confrontation with Ron just now made it clear to everyone that Klaus was not one for socializing, so no one bothered us anymore.

"Are you afraid?" Klaus didn't let go of my hand. He didn't look at me, just took a shallow sip of wine from the glass in front of him.

"I... I'm nervous," I croaked, feeling utterly helpless. "Those arrogant nobles are looking at me, but I know they won't treat me so kindly once they find out about my slave status."

Ron's behavior at Klaus's castle earlier was still fresh in my memory. In this banquet, Klaus was the center of attention, while I, under Klaus's protection, was just his shadow. But if I succeeded in staying in the palace, then I would be facing all the malice alone.
