Chapter 31: Sulk

After crossing the forest, Nathaniel saw a few houses and settlements nearby. The girl took Nathaniel to her sick mother. He gave the girl some money to buy medicine and food for her mother. But neither Nathaniel's dangers did end there nor their's.

The woman was so sick that she could barely speak and she got sicker when Nathaniel came. After seeing her daughter with Nathaniel, a sigh of relief skipped her mouth. She thought might be he was her daughter's boyfriend as she couldn't recognize him well.

Holding Nathaniel's hands, she placed the girl's hand on his hands and said in a dire voice, "I'm leaving my daughter in your charge. You will take care of her. Please promise me you'll never let go of my daughter's hand?"

His eyes became big in shock, what was she trying to say? He pulled his hand away and said, "I'll do my best to help your daughter. Don't worry." The woman took his hand in hers again.
