Chapter LXV - Unhealable (part 2)

The master's office is on the second floor, far on the end of the hall. I have been to that room a few times already, and now I don't feel afraid anymore.

My right hand that was covered in gloves was lifted and knocked on his door a couple times.

"Come in!"

A man's voice can be heard from inside, allowing me to enter. I slowly opened the door and revealed myself.

The master was on his desk writing some stuff. When he saw me enter, he took off his glasses and looked surprised.

"Holy hell… I thought I had sent you to a suicide mission…"

"Well, it might as well be one."

I closed the door behind me, and walked to the front of his desk. He stopped his writing, and turned all of his attention to me as he leaned his back on his chair.

This guy really thinks of his office as a room only for himself. He doesn't have any other chair besides the one for him. He just questions people while he is sitting down.

It would have been better if I have a chair for myself…

"So... Tell me everything."

.

I started by telling him about the mission, all the way from the beginning.

How I met Lyona and the knights, how we had so many issues on Veldon, how we met the dwarves and the rebellion group, and finally how we defeated the undead conjurer.

I also told him about how he forgot to warn me about the Veldonian's rankers. The reason why there's a huge fight as well as the sun's collapse, was because I was fighting one of the strongest rankers on Veldonia.

"You fought against... The Prym? The lightning guy?"

He looked very shocked hearing that. After all, Prym was indeed famous. He was young, and very strong. He is probably even stronger than Jonus.

It was kind of my fault for not knowing about them. I wasn't that prepared going against them, thank god everything worked out in the end.

"Yeah. And two other rank ones."

"Oh… well damn..."

Valon placed his glasses back on his face, looking quite shocked. That is a very normal reaction, after all I just fought three strongest fighters from a kingdom by myself.

That wasn't entirely true, but I did wound Merida heavily when I threw Elbrado at her. The captain and the others simply did the final blows.

"Did you tell anyone about your identity?"

"Only to the knights and the rebellions. And… maybe to some of the dwarves who helped us."

"Good. That's great."

Valon seemed to be overly worrying about this. He knows that something very bad will happen if things go sideways, so I went and asked.

"What's wrong?"

"No, it's...

If your identity was somehow leaked, how you were able to fight against a rank one... No, three rank ones from Veldonia… Something huge might happen."

"I... think I'm aware..."

Valon nodded, agreeing that if the worst somehow happens, we might even see an all out war.

Despite how I calculated most of the things, and how I planned everything through, I still got very lucky. The knights, the rebellion, the dwarves, even the casualties. We were very lucky on this occasion.

Valon turned his gaze at my right hand, and immediately asked.

"So? Tell me about the injuries."

"... How did you know?"

"You don't wear a long sleeved outfit on a hot sunny day, and certainly not thick gloves."

Valon is indeed sharp. And I'm glad he is, that way it makes it easier for me to deal with him.

A smart man, indeed. Fits perfectly as the leader of the adventurers. He's not a royalty for nothing.

I chuckled at his sharpness and slowly took off the gloves on my right hand as well as rolling up my sleeves. Valon can only watch in horror at the sight in front of him slowly unravels itself.

"It... really was a suicide mission, wasn't it?"

"I told you. It is."

I closed the sleeves back and wore the gloves again. Valon placed his hands on the table and let out a sigh. He thought about things for a second, and finally asked.

"Alright... What do you want?"

"... What?"

"This mission was too heavy for you to begin with. You were facing an undead conjurer, as well as three rank one rankers at the same time.

Those injuries… the fact that you got those injuries were simply lucky. You could have died, and things could have gone worse. And I obviously felt terrible for sending you on that suicide mission.

So tell me. If there's anything you want, you can tell me."

"..."

This is… new.

Then again, I could have expected this. But I just couldn't think of a thing that I want.

Maybe later I could think of something, but what exactly do I need right now?

Aside from finding a way to heal my hand and legs, I could ask for a house. But a house is simply a money problem, and I can fix that easily. So I don't think I should ask that.

Maybe something…

Ah, I just couldn't think of it.

"… I… don't think there's anything that I can ask for, not right now. But maybe in the future, I might ask for some stuff."

"I see. Then, feel free to request anything in the future. For now, I will just give you the mission reward."

He stood up and opened the wardrobe at the right side of the room. He took out a giant bag filled with coins, as well as a small box.

"That is... a lot of money..."

In this world, there is no such thing as paper money. They are all in the form of coins, and that bag is humongous. I wonder how many coins are in there.

The size alone is already larger than my entire body.

Valon dropped the giant bag of coins on the ground, and placed the small box on the table.

"Here it is. Five thousand Jules, along with a special item."

Five... Thousand?

No, I guess a lot of money was simply expected from this mission. But...

"Special item?"

I picked up the small black box and pulled open the string. I took a peek inside and studied the item. It's a golden bracelet, with three red gems in the middle.

I took the bracelet out and stared at it closer.

"A bracelet?"

"Put it on."

How do I exactly put a golden bracelet on?

Oh, this part can be released. The bracelet split itself in half, with one side still connected by a string. I placed the bracelet on my right hand and closed the bracelet until a click sound was heard.

I stared at the bracelet on my hand, decorating on top of my sleeves.

"... And?"

"Try conjuring a flame?"

I did what he said and tried conjuring a fireball. But unexpectedly, something was odd. The fireball came out, but it's... smaller than I thought.

I tried inserting more magic energy, but it only grows by a bit. When I'm doing magic, the gems on the bracelet lit up.

"Why does the fireball-"

"Smaller?"

Valon explained to me how the bracelet works. Basically it limits the use of your magic abilities.

Just now, I used a normal amount of magic energy when conjuring the fireball, and thanks to the bracelet, only an eighth of my magic energy was exerted.

I see now!

The bracelet was also useful for hiding presence. A lot of strong people out there had a powerful sensing ability, like Prym. And with this bracelet, it made me seem like I'm the same as a normal person.

It's perfect for stealth, but it also has some flaws.

"This is... both useless and useful."

"Well, I'm glad you can see the downside, so I won't have to explain it."

The downside is, this item limits the magic output to only an eighth. If I was in danger, this item could put me in danger. So unless I can break this item as quickly as possible, I could just die.

"Though, you can activate it or deactivate it by pressing the gem in the middle."

"... Like this?"

I said as I clicked on the middle gem. But as soon as I clicked the gem, the fireball that was floating next to me grew larger very quickly. Valon panicked and hid himself under the table, while I somehow cried as the room turned even brighter.
