Chapter CV - A Brief Beef (part 1)

And so, the students went forward one by one to try out the magic tool that will be used for testing.

And every time the teacher asked for them to show a certain colour, everyone would always say that it's difficult. Because to get a certain colour, you need to put in a certain amount of magic energy, and doing that requires extreme focus and discipline.

Discipline, huh… That might be the key.

"Rize, come try it."

Manda said to me after she tried it herself. I was still sitting down on my chair until she called me. Everyone else had already tried it, and now it's only me.

I stood up and walked forward. Everyone else simply stares as I make my way towards the teacher's table, and I realized I've gotten too famed among the students.

So many eyes, for what...? I'm just gonna suck anyway.

I placed my hand on the crystal, and the flashlight showed the color yellow. I guess yellow is the maximum level that the tool can show.

I tried dropping the amount of magic energy, and it moved so fast until it finally showed red.

I'm giving a very minimum amount of magic energy right now, which means red is the lowest colour. I slowly watch the flashlight as I increase my energy output to study the colours. After red is gray, then purple, and then green, blue, and finally yellow.

"These are the colours of adventurers ranking..."

I said out of the blue, which confuses everyone.

"Correct. The person who made this is from Mazino, after all. It's your dear headmaster."

"""Oooohhhh…"""

Damn... Then, why isn't the top one white coloured?

"Okay, Rize. Show me… Green."

The teacher said to me after remembering my name.

Green... Below blue, above purple.

I focused on the energy output until I gave the lowest amount. After it turned Red, I slowly made my way towards Green as I inputted the energy.

But, the speed of the color change goes incredibly fast. Even when I'm doing it very slowly, it still suddenly arrives in Yellow.

I took a deep breath and enhanced my focus. The key is discipline and focus. This is just like archery, not that I'm ever good at that.

I went down to Red again and slowly made my way to the top. I passed Grey. I passed Purple. I stopped inputting when it turned Green.

"W-Wow… I couldn't even do it that well... Well done, Rize."

I nodded at the teacher and went back to my seat. Everyone else kept on trying it. They all tried the same way I did, go to the bottom first and slowly made their way up. But, everyone still couldn't do it.

"Oh, why don't you guys ask Rize for tips on how to do it?"

The teacher suggested, and everyone else stared at me like some hungry predator.

"Not again..."

"Rize! Teach me how to do it!"

Manda went to my seat and suddenly shouted one meter in front of me. God, my ears...

She pulled my hand and dragged me to the teachers table. And since everyone is already here, I ended up explaining the trick to all of them.

"The trick to do this is to get as low as possible, and then slowly raise the output until you get the colour. Remember, the point is discipline and focus."

I placed my hand on the crystal. I lowered the output all the way until the flashlight turned Red. I took a deep breath and cleared my mind, then I slowly raised the output.

The colour turns up very slowly. It turns to Grey, then Purple, and finally Green. The way it moves slowly made the others amazed.

"Take a deep breath before you try it."

I said as I took off my hand and moved away from the tool. Manda then continued by placing her hand on the crystal. She put it on the lowest amount, took a deep breath and slowly raised it.

The colour moves up very slowly. Until it finally landed on green, where she stopped the output.

"Fuahh!! I was holding my breath!!"

"You were holding your breath!?"

The other students congratulate Manda for being able to do it. Then one by one, they tried it.

After fifteen minutes, everyone managed to get green so easily. Even the teacher is widely shocked.

"W-Well, you guys were able to do it, which is… very impressive…"

She glared at me on my seat. I can feel a great sense of confusion in her eyes. But, every other teacher is kind of like that after they saw me in action.

Suddenly, I feel endangered.

The class continued with the teacher explaining all kinds of stuff about the mid-semester exam. Aside from this test, the other practical tests will be aiming, magical capabilities, and finally magic output.

The aiming test will be tested also using a magic tool. Simply move around the tool by inputting magic energy to it, and then shoot the projectile. It's very simple in concept, but may be difficult to do.

As for magical capabilities, the students will be tested on how good they are at multiple magical techniques. The techniques are body enchanting, augmenting, and even the magic tiers.

Yes, apparently they score those. And having more than one magic affinity also becomes a plus.

Since I have three including my healing magic, I might need to pump up my shadow magic. And right now, I can only conjure a shadow sword. A normal shadow mage should be able to make a wall of shadow easily.

And finally, the magic output. Shows how powerful you can do on your most powerful attack. Most of the students can only output ten percent of their full magic energy, but I can use fifty percent if I wanted to.

I am… very certain I can pass that test easily.

And then there's also the written test. Students will answer the questions on paper and their scores will also be counted.

At the very end of the semester, if our score beats the students from another class, we will be transferred to that class. And right now, class E had no hope of beating anyone from the other class.

Except... now they do.

"You all managed to do the magic control test perfectly, and I'm sure the other classes will have a hard time doing that. So, make sure you train for other exams as well, so that you can pass the students from the other class and move up to a higher class!"

The teacher said aloud, but the students seemed to be lost in hope. Class E is like the bottom of the bottom. They are untalented, dumb, and weak in magic.

At least, that's what everyone else thought.

After seeing how they did yesterday in the practical class, I can tell a lot of them actually had really great talents. They just need to hone it, and they can easily become great magicians.

"We can do it."

One of the students suddenly said it. He had short black hair with glasses on. If I'm not wrong, he is the class president.

"If we try, we can do it."

"Elmone is right."

Manda suddenly spoke out.

"We can always train for it! Let's all aim for class A!"

"""Yeahh!!"""

Man... is this some sort of romcom drama or something?

I guess for them, the discrimination from the other classes is indeed terrible. Being known as the 'End' class, they must be getting quite tired of the disgusted behavior from the students of the other classes.

As such... their desire to get out of this situation is getting stronger.
