Uneasy.
That was the only word Marnthe could think of to describe the heavy feeling in his chest as he walked farther away from the beach house bar with Fai next to him.
The comfort he felt whenever he walked her to the bus station had been oddly replaced with concern. Any question he wanted to ask her had been shoved away by thoughts about Geale.
Was he really okay? Did Marnthe really not miss anything in the conversation earlier? Was Geale genuinely fine with being left behind at the bar?
"Do you want to turn back? I really don't mind walking there on my own," Fai said, catching the anxious expression on his face.
"No, I want to walk you to the station."
"But you're worried, aren't you?"
"Me? Why would I be worried?"
"Because Geale seemed upset."
"He did?! B-but he said it was okay for us to walk together!"
"So you did notice it."
"Notice what?"
"Tell me the real score between you two."
"What do you mean?"
"Who is he to you?"
