Confusing the Past with Destiny

Eli was sure Mariella could sing the first time he met her.

He wasn't sure why, but everything about her told him she had a beautiful singing voice. He knew she was bubbly, kind, and friendly. He knew she was the type who enjoyed travelling. He knew she was passionate when it came to her relationships.

And he was right, at least when it came to her attitude and behavior. They both figured it was because they were destined for each other. Eli recognized her before they properly met each other. It was a classic falling-in-love-at-first sight scenario.

He was walking down the road one morning, exploring the streets of the city he was exiled to after being called a criminal. There was supposed to be an art fair nearby and he decided to get out of his empty apartment to see what was there. Eli wasn't planning on dating anyone, not when he had been accused of heinous crimes against women. His parents' money managed to save him from jail for sins he didn't remember committing.
