I had long checked out this cave and found no trace of its resident. And as yesterday was the last time I had been here, and the forest seeming well empty at this moment, it should be safe… probably.
“… Should be safe for a while.” I say to no one in particular.
About two dozen feet into the cave I set for camp, on one knee making a pile. Luckily the dew hadn’t set in much so it should burn quite easily.
The kids walk in a distance away from me, still afraid, heading further into the cave.
Piling the twigs to a small heap I set the reminder to the side and place the kindling in the middle. With the flint I took from my person, one in each hand I hit hard on them. Clack, They sounded.
A few hits in, a few sparks flying. The kindle catches some and begins to smoke a bit. Good. I drop to all four and begun blowing on it. Slowly orange embers spreads and fire is born.
