"Do you want to get beaten up your pretty face by the ladies at this young age, huh?"
Zaim snapped back to reality and said, "Ah, huh?" He turned his head and looked at the ladies' washroom logo, then tried to handle the situation. "Oh, I came here by mistake. I thought it was the men's washroom." He gestured toward the bathroom, then walked away with Rayyan. After they left, Helena came out of the washroom. She also felt a similar feeling but ignored it, thinking she might be tired and would feel better after some rest.
It was already 10 pm when Zaim was still feeling that way. He informed Rayyan about his need to leave because he felt suffocated there, as if someone was pulling him away somewhere but he went outside to get some fresh air.
Helena also felt the constant feeling and went outside to get some fresh air, but by then Zaim had already sat in his car and driven off. Although it was snowing lightly, the trees were completely covered with snow as it had been snowing since evening. Helena watched the car drive away just as Faris, Nura, Rayyan, and Fatima approached. Helena turned her head back to see them coming, then they all went to have dinner at a restaurant.
After dinner, when everyone came back home, they changed into comfortable clothes and sat in the lounge together, sharing their activities from the day. However, Helena was engrossed in playing with Aylin and Burrak. Nura, who was sitting on the couch beside Ayesha, kept looking at Helena with admiration. She then said to Ayesha while still looking at Helena, "Mama, haven't you found a good proposal for Helena yet? She should get married now and start a family like us."
Helena eavesdropped on their conversation but didn't let them know. She quietly returned to the kids and continued to play with them. Ayesha, also looking at Helena, made a thoughtful expression and said, "I'm thinking about it. I even talked to Helena about it, but she said that she would get married when the right time comes. For now, she wants to study more." Helena was not bothered and continued playing with Aylin and Burrak.
Nura said nothing, just hummed in response. Rayyan stood up and said to everyone while yawning, "Ok, good night, pretty ladies. I'm very tired and going to bed." He walked away, waving his hand. Everyone laughed a little at his reaction. One by one, everyone went to bed too. Nura then went to Helena and the kids and said, "Yah, pretty aunt of my pretty babies, won't you sleep? Look at the time."
Helena didn't realize that it was already 2 am. She looked at Nura and said, "Nura, let me sleep with my babies tonight, please," she pleaded in a baby tone. Nura laughed a little at her statement and agreed. Helena made a victory sound in a baby tone, "yayyy let's go babies." then grabbed both Aylin and Burrak in her arms and went to her bedroom. Nura kept looking at her retreating figure with a gentle smile on her face.
Helena made them sit on the bed, happy that they were going to sleep with her. She changed Aylin and Burrak into night suits and put them to bed. She lay down beside Aylin and put a pillow beside Burrak to make sure he wouldn't fall out of bed as he walked in his sleep.
After a while, when Aylin and Burrak were asleep, Helena kept looking at them with admiration. She said in a baby tone, making a sad pout, "Yah, my precious babies, I'm gonna miss you both so much." She kissed them one by one and adjusted the blanket over them. She tried to sleep but couldn't. She then lay straight and looked at the ceiling for a while, feeling the constant sensation. She tried to shake it off but failed then she stood up, grabbed a shawl from the couch, and went to the balcony. She stood there for a while, recalling the evening and the feeling she had.
Suddenly, the car she saw leaving the expo center appeared in her mind. She thought to herself while curling her hair with her finger, lost in thought, "What was that? Why does that car keep appearing in my mind?" She shook her head, unaware that it was Zaim's car and that he was the cause of her feelings. When she felt colder, she closed the sliding door of the balcony and went inside, laying down on the bed and trying to sleep.
The next morning, when Zaim woke up, it was 9:30 am, and his room was completely dark because of the night shades covering the giant window of his room. He thought it had not Fajr time yet. He sat up half, feeling a heavy dizziness, barely opening his eyes. Placing his hand on his forehead, he lay back down. He tried to sit up again, but his head was aching and spinning badly. He then grabbed his mobile and tapped on the screen to see the time. Suddenly, he sat up on the bed, threw his phone on the bed in a little jerk, and grabbed his head with both hands, saying,
"Ahhh damn it, how did I sleep this long? I missed my Fajr salah." He looked at the ceiling and said, "Ya Allah, I'm sorry. I couldn't wake up. I know it's my mistake. Please forgive me this time; I'll never do this again. I know I attended the party and enjoyed it, but I didn't make time for You. Please forgive me this time; I'll surely never miss my Salah again."
As he had recently embraced Islam, he didn't know he could perform qaza namaz with Duhr. He grabbed his temple because of the constant pain and finally realized he had a fever. Well, He had a fever because Allah had forgiven him and his past sins, although he didn't know this. He thought it was just a usual fever due to the changing weather.
This belief is based on various hadiths (sayings of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) that suggest that physical suffering can cleanse a person of their sins and lead to forgiveness.
"No Muslim is afflicted with any harm, but that Allah will remove his sins as the leaves of a tree fall down." (Sahih al-Bukhari)
"This hadith means that when a Muslim faces difficulties, pain, or suffering in life, it serves as a form of purification. Just as the leaves fall from a tree, shedding what is old and unneeded, the hardships that a Muslim endures help to cleanse them of their sins and shortcomings."
He stood from the bed, still feeling dizzy, he grabbed his temple, rubbing his eyes to see properly, but his head was aching badly. He went to the drawer where he kept some medicine, took out a painkiller from the first aid box, then went to the nightstand, poured water into a glass, and gulped it down with the painkiller.
He also missed his meeting that was scheduled for 9 in the morning. The meeting was with Rayyan durrani his friend at his home. Knowing Zaim and his talents, Rayyan had offered Zaim a deal, and Zaim had to attend the meeting, but he couldn't because he was very ill.
He called his manager and asked him to postpone the meeting because he wasn't feeling well and didn't have the energy to attend.
On the other hand, Helena was packing her things because they had to leave Canada tonight and return to Japan. Everyone was busy with breakfast while the maids were serving them. Rayyan was on the phone with Zaim's manager. Fatima went to the garden area where Rayyan was talking with a cup of tea.
"Okay, Park Shin Yu, no problem. We will settle it some other time.
Yes, yes, we'll. Wish him to get well soon."
Fatima approached, placing the cup on the table.
"Haha, the pleasure is all mine,"
Rayyan looked at her with a smile and gestured for her to sit on the chair beside him.
"Yeah, take care of him."
He then cut the call. "You haven't had your breakfast, Rayyan. Look at the time," Fatima said. Rayyan placed his hand over Fatima's shoulder, looked all over her face with love and a smile, and said while placing his thumb and finger on her chin, "My dear wife, I had a meeting. I told you that I would have my breakfast with the dealer here, but unfortunately, he got sick, and we had to postpone the meeting. That's why I've not eaten yet. Now I'll eat with my dear wife, hmm?"
Fatima smiled at him, then stood from her seat and was about to bring breakfast for him, but Rayyan held her hand and said, "Wait, let me go with you. I'll have my breakfast inside." They went inside. Helena was still in her room packing her stuff. As Fatima reached the hall, she asked Nura while her eyes kept searching for Helena, "Where is Helena? Has she had her breakfast?"
Nura said while feeding Aylin and Burrak, "Yeah, she's done with her breakfast, and she is in her room packing her stuff." Fatima hummed in response, then instructed the maids to bring fresh breakfast for Rayyan.
On the other night, Helena and her family had reached Japan. She was sitting on her balcony and looking at pictures of Aylin and Burrak. She was missing them a lot. Just then, she saw Nura was video calling her. Helena sat straight while receiving the call, moving her phone a little backward so she could appear clearly. Just then, she heard Nura say,
Assalamualaikum. Yah girl, what have you done to my babies, huh?"
Helena joined her eyebrows in confusion while looking in another direction, then she looked again and asked,
"Walaikum assalam. What do you mean, Nura? Is everything alright? Are the kids alright? What happened?"
Nura laughed so hard at her worried expression, then replied,
"Yah girl, hold on. Everything is alright, and the babies are alright too."
She rested on the chair while taking a sigh of relief.
"You just did magic on my babies. They've been disturbing me, saying they wanted to talk to you since you left. Faris and I even tried to explain that you were on a flight, but they insisted they had to talk to you. Even Aylin, who doesn't speak properly, has been chewing my brain since morning in his baby voice, 'Ena call, mama, Ena call.' That's why I called you at this hour."
"Yah Nura, you scared me. Where are my babies? Let me talk to them. I was watching their videos and pictures right now, and look, you called me." Helena looked at the phone screen with her doe eyes.
After talking with them, she stood from her seat and jumped onto her bed as she was tired and wanted to sleep.
A week passed. While the world was busy with their activities, everyone was happy, cheerful, and grateful for their lives. But on the other hand, Zaim was still not happy. It seemed like there was no happiness in Zaim's life. However, Helena was getting better day by day and coming back to life completely. They were all ready to go to Ali's mansion because Jessica had invited them to attend dinner.
In the past few days, Helena shared a great bond with Jessica, and Jessica also loved her like her own child. She was all ready to go, wearing a light pink floral, simple, and decent gown. Over it, she wore an off-white hijab that complemented her even more with minimal makeup on her face.
They headed to Mohammadi Villa, where the maid showed them the way to the house. Jessica was already in the hall, waiting for them. As she saw Ahmed and Ayesha, she smiled and went towards them. Just then, her gaze fell on Helena, who was coming behind Ahmed and Ayesha. Jessica smiled even more widely after looking at her.
She hugged Ayesha, and after breaking the hug, she spread her arms towards Helena with a constant smile on her face, then hugged Helena warmly. She closed her eyes and felt her embrace, then she said while smiling, "Ahh, my precious baby." Helena smiled and said, "Assalamualaikum, aunty, how are you?" Helena broke the hug. Jessica placed her palms on Helena's elbows and replied,
"Walaikum assalam, my precious Helena. Ahh, baby, I was eagerly waiting for you. You should have come earlier," she said while making a sad pout. Everyone laughed at her playful nature, then she made way for them to come inside by gesturing with her hand.
They sat on the couch in the hall and engrossed in talking. Helena shared her Canada trip with Jessica, and Jessica didn't miss a chance to make them laugh with her jokes. Just then, Ali came out of his room, saying loudly, "Assalamualaikum, Ahmed. How are you, my brother?" He approached to Ahmed, who stood from his seat and hugged Ali while saying, "Walaikum assalam, Ali. I'm good, Alhamdulillah." He then broke the hug, then said again, "You tell me. You didn't tell me you were leaving for New York. I came here before going to Canada."
Ali replied while gesturing for Ahmed to sit, "Ah, actually, I had an important meeting in New York." They both sat on the couch, then saw the maids come with different kinds of refreshments and Clara instructed them to serve. After taking refreshments, they all engrossed in talking, and Helena was sitting beside Jessica, laughing at her jokes.
After a moment of silence, Jessica looked at Ali, and Ali also looked at Jessica. Ali blinked his eyes to signal her that she could ask Ahmed and Ayesha. Jessica moved her body a little towards Helena and held Helena's hands then she looked at her. Helena looked at Jessica's hands but sensed nothing. Then Jessica moved her eyes towards Ayesha while still holding Helena's hand. "Ayesha," she began. Ayesha replied, "Yes, Jessica?"
"You have something of mine, and I really want it from you." Ayesha furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, then she looked at Ahmed. Ahmed also looked at her, then Ayesha moved her gaze towards Jessica and replied, "I don't get it, Jessica. What do I have of yours?" Jessica adjusted herself a little, then she caressed Helena's hand. Helena looked again towards Jessica's gesture, then Jessica said, "I want Helena's hand for my Zaim."
Helena felt as if someone had pulled the rug out from under her. She hated Zaim more than anything in this world, and now they were talking about their marriage. Ayesha looked again at Ahmed, then at Helena. Just then, her eyes moved to Jessica. "Ahmed brother and Ayesha, please don't deny me. I really want Helena for my Zaim. You know Zaim already, and I hope you won't hesitate to say yes," she said while looking at them with a demanding look on her face.
Helena still felt that everything was gone, and she was left alone in this world. Anger surged in her heart, and she thought that Zaim had told his parents about this. Ayesha replied while hesitating a little, "Umm, Jessica, I really appreciate that you like my Helena," then she moved her eyes to Ahmed and then looked at Jessica again and said, "But I can't give you my answer right now, Jessica. I need to discuss this matter with Ahmed and Helena."
Jessica was about to say something, but Ali understood that Jessica might insist on a yes in front of everyone. "Yes, yes, Ayesha, you can take your time, and whatever your answer will be, we will be happy with it. We will not pressurize you with this matter.
I know Helena has the right to have a say in this. You all discuss it at home and then tell us. Helena's approval matters the most but I will say something regarding my Zaim. You know Zaim very well," he then moved his gaze towards Ahmed, who was listening to them, and said, "Ahmed, you know me and my son well.
He will be a future successful businessman in this business world. He is still studying at Harvard for his higher education. I'm telling you this because you have the right to know more about him if you agree to this relationship. I will not pressurize any of you, but first think deeply and then answer me."
Ahmed looked at him, then said, "Thanks for your gesture, Ali. As you know, we need to ask Helena first. She needs to be comfortable with this matter, then I'll tell you our answer." Ali nodded his head, then they continued talking and had dinner.
The next morning, Zaim had returned to London and was engrossed in his business to settle, and become a workaholic. He had been busy in his office and came home late. Despite his busy schedule, his search had not stopped yet. His business was growing faster than any other. He had been in a meeting for an hour when a representative from their dealer came to deliver a presentation. She was wearing modern and bold clothes with half-bare feet. Zaim didn't even bother to look at her, despite her efforts to impress him with her looks.
Everyone looked at him with a confused look then his manager said,
"Sir, shall we start?" Zaim hummed in response then the dealer started her presentation, "Hello everyone, this is Helena David."
Zaim suddenly looked at her, keeping a stern and shocked expression on his face. His heart started pounding like a drum upon hearing Helena's name. He made a disgusted look, thinking that his Helena was not like her. Helena hesitated a little but smiled awkwardly, thinking that Zaim was impressed by her. She then moved a little towards Zaim, but he quickly looked in another direction, sensing her intentions. He said while looking at everyone, "The meeting is over."
Everyone looked at him with a confused expression, and his manager said, "But sir, we haven't heard the presentation from DnD production.
Zaim didn't let him finish and said, "We don't need more companies to deal with. That was enough, Email me everything." With that, he stood from his spot and left, leaving everyone in disbelief along with Helena.
°°°°
Helena was sitting in her little garden, continuously thinking about the proposal Jessica had asked about. She thought in her mind with a lost look on her face, "I can't. I can never marry that filthy, womanizer I can never let him win in his intentions. I can never let him come into my life. I can never love him never ever. I hate him a lot. I hate him more than anything. How could he do this? Is he that shameless? How can I let an atheist into my life like him who is a playboy? Astagfirullah, tauba, ya Allah have mercy on me, he neither has a religion nor accepts Allah and my prophet as the last messenger of Allah. He is also a friend of Alex, who betrayed me, whom I hate a lot. He is just like Alex."
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard Ayesha call her inside. She stood from her seat and went into the lounge, where Ahmed was already waiting. It looked like he was waiting for Helena. She understood what he was going to ask and prepared her mind to deny it at first.
Ahmed tapped his hand on the sofa to make Helena sit beside him. Helena kept looking deep into her father's eyes and sensed those demanding eyes then she sat on the couch and still looked at him, feeling her heart race faster than ever. But she managed to control herself and not let down in front of her father. Ayesha also sat in front of them. Ahmed began, "As you already know why we called you here, have you thought about the proposal?"
Helena felt her feet start to tremble. She grabbed her knees with her hands without letting Ahmed know. She hesitated, "B...baba." She stopped and looked down at her bracelet, starting to rubbing it. Ahmed kept observing her every action, then said, "Yes, my child, my precious Helena, speak up. We are waiting for your answer."NHelena said in one go, "Baba, I'm not ready for marriage."
Ahmed looked at Ayesha with a confused expression, then turned to Helena and said,
"But Helena, you'll have to marry someday. So, why not now? You've graduated, MashaAllah."
Helena continued staring at her nails. She closed her eyes tightly, then, after a few seconds, opened them with a trembling voice and while scratching her nails, she said,
"Baba, I hate every man in this world. I don't trust anyone anymore. No one can ever be like you, Baba. I'm terrified of being betrayed again also I can't invest my feelings in any relationship ever again."
Ahmed looked at her in disbelief, then gently placed his hands on her shoulders and said,
"I know that trusting again is difficult, but Helena, sometimes Allah breaks our hearts in ways that draw us closer to Him. If things don't happen the way you wanted, they will happen in a way better than you imagined. That's the beauty of Allah's plan. Whatever He takes away, He replaces with something ten times better. That's His promise."
He continued, still looking deep into her eyes,
"Allah never intends harm for His servants. He loves us more than seventy mothers combined. The trials we face are His way of guiding us, and He gives parents the wisdom to make the right decisions for their children. No parent would ever wish harm on their child. You will be happy with Zaim. He genuinely likes you."
Helena looked at her father, with a shocked look. Ahmed continued,
"It's not necessary, just because Alex betrayed you doesn't mean Zaim will do the same. Not every man is like that. Where is it written that all men are the same hmm? There are many good men who are examples of integrity and kindness. You need to move on, my child."
Still in disbelief, Helena felt her eyes fill with tears and she felt a sting in her heart. Memories of Alex, which she had tried so hard to bury, suddenly flooded back.
Ahmed reassured her again,
"I know Zaim well. He is a good man, and he will make a good husband. Moreover, I trust you, Helena. If any challenges arise, I know you will handle them and help him become the right person for you."
His voice softened,
"I'm at an age where I don't know how much longer I have. I want to see you settled and happy before I leave this world. If you say no, I will respect your decision, because nothing is more important to me than you, my child."
Helena's eyes widened. She spoke sternly,
"Baba-" she paused as a tear slid down her cheek, " she looked at Ahmed with the constant expression and said, but Baba, what about that video?"
Ahmed gently shushed her, cupping her cheeks with his hands and said,
"We've already discussed that. Don't bring it up again. If Zaim or his parents had any issues with it, they would never have asked for your hand."
Helena lowered her head, the weight of her father's words pressing on her mind.
"I'm at an age where I don't know how much longer I have," his words echoed in her thoughts.
With her gaze still downcast, she whispered,
"say yes to them." A tear slid down her cheek as her voice wavered, barely supporting the weight of her decision.
Ahmed looked at Ayesha, who was beaming with happiness. He then turned to Helena and said,
"MashaAllah, Alhamdulillah. Come here and let me hug my precious child."
Helena looked up at him again, seeing his arms open wide. She moved into his embrace, resting her chin on his shoulder. As she closed her eyes, Ahmed felt her silent sobs. He gently caressed her back and whispered,
"In Shaa Allah, one day you will smile and say, 'Ya Allah, this is more than what I prayed for. Alhamdulillah.' Mark my words, Helena."
He then kissed the side of her head while still holding her close and gently pulled back, looking at her tear-streaked face, he said,
"My precious girl, a piece of my heart. I expected this from you that would make the right choice." He kissed her both palms and added while looking at the ceiling.
"Shukr Alhamdulillah, Ya Rabbil Alamin"
Later that evening, while Helena was at her madrasa, Ahmed and Ayesha were sipping tea in their small backyard. After taking a sip, Ahmed said,
"Invite Jessica and Ali for dinner." Ayesha lowered her cup and looked at Ahmed before replying,
"Okay, I'll invite them."
She reached for the phone on the table, she dialed Jessica's number and waited for the call to connect.
"Assalamualaikum, Jessica."
"Walaikum assalam, Ayesha! How are you?"
"I'm fine, Alhamdulillah. How about you?"
"I'm good. What's up?"
"I actually called to invite you and Ali to our home for dinner tomorrow. We can talk more when you're here."
"Sounds good. I'll tell Ali, and we'll be there tomorrow."
Ayesha hung up the phone just as the doorbell rang. Ahmed stood from his seat and walked to the front gate of their small house. When he opened it, he saw Helena returning from her Madarsah. Helena said while entering the house , "Assalamualaikum, Baba."
Ahmed smiled at her and replied while locking the gate: "Walaikum assalam, my precious child." Helena sat down on a chair and greeted her mother with a salam. Ayesha poured tea from the pot for Helena, who took the cup and began sipping. Ayesha then said, "I've invited Jessica and Ali for dinner tomorrow."
Helena lowered her cup and pressed her lips into a thin smile before nodding slightly. Ayesha then asked, "Can you take a day off from madrasah tomorrow? I can't manage everything alone."
Helena simply hummed in response, lost in thought as she caressed the edge of the cup. Ahmed and Ayesha exchanged a glance but they said nothing, with Ahmed reassuring Ayesha with a subtle nod,
silently conveying that Helena's hesitation was natural, given that she had just agreed to the marriage.
Afterward, Helena went to her room to rest.
The next evening, Helena was busy sweeping the entire house, while Ayesha was in the kitchen, preparing a variety of dishes for dinner and refreshments. Ayesha wanted to make sure everything was perfect since whenever they visited Jessica, she always served them lavish meals. Ayesha felt it was important to reciprocate, especially since Jessica and Ali might soon be Helena's in-laws.
Helena had done with her sweeping however Ayesha was still in the kitchen to make the dishes, Helena walked into the kitchen, brushing dust off her loose hoodie. She opened the fridge, grabbed a bottle, and said,
"Mama, why don't you take a break? I'll handle the rest." She poured water into a glass.
Ayesha shook her head while garnishing the cheese on the lasagna,
"No, you go freshen up and wear something pretty. Just like you," she said, gently lifting Helena's chin. Helena tried to help her saying "But Mama-" but Ayesha shushed her, insisting her to go get ready. Helena reluctantly complied and went to change while making a dramatic sad pout.
By 7:30 in the evening, everything was ready. The doorbell rang just as Ahmed returned from the mosque a little while ago opened the main gate and saw Ali and Jessica standing there, accompanied by guards carrying numerous gift bags. Ahmed smiled and hugged Ali warmly,
"Assalamualaikum, my friend. Please, come inside." After breaking the hug, he greeted Jessica with a slight bow.
Ali and Jessica entered the house and the guards followed them carrying the gifts inside. Ahmed glanced at the guards in surprise but gestured for them to place the bags on the table. Ayesha was standing in the living room when she saw them. She greeted Jessica and hugged her,
"This really wasn't necessary, Jessica," she said, looking at the gift bags.
Jessica smiled, then said while looking at Ayesha, "I know you have everything, but these are for my precious baby, and the rest five bags are for you and Ali." Everyone laughed softly at her comment. Ayesha and Ahmed gestured for them to sit, and refreshments were served as they all began chatting. Helena sat on a single couch, listening quietly and occasionally responding.
After a moment of silence, Ahmed looked at Ayesha, who blinked, signaling him to speak. Helena noticed this and looked down at her lap, nervously rubbing her fingers together. Ahmed cleared his throat,
"Umm, Ali, you understand why we called you both here today."
Ali looked puzzled, glancing at Jessica before turning back to Ahmed.
"What do you mean, Ahmed? I'm not quite sure." Ahmed sighed then said,
"You asked for Helena's hand in marriage for your son, Zaim." Ali tilted his head slightly,
"Mmhmmm." Ahmed continued,
"We've agreed to the proposal.
Jessica's eyes widened in happiness, and Ali sat up straight, exchanging a joyous look with Jessica. She clasped her hands together, bringing her hands close to her lips as she smiled brightly and the sparkle appeared in her eyes. She stood up and walked over to Helena, who also rose from her seat.
Jessica hugged her gently and said while caressing her back warmly with closed eyes, "Ahh, my baby girl, Jessica's favorite piece of diamond. Thank you so much for saying yes, darling." She pulled back from the hug, noticing Helena's hesitation and nervousness. Jessica placed her fingers under Helena's chin, lifting her face to meet her gaze she then said, "Don't be shy, my baby girl. You've made a wonderful decision. I can't express how grateful and happy I am."
Jessica guided Helena back to the couch, and Ahmed turned to Ali,
"So, when is Zaim coming back from London? We'd like to start preparing for the nikkah. We won't have many functions since Helena prefers simplicity, but I want to arrange a beautiful nikkah ceremony for them." Ali looked at Jessica then said after turning back to ahmed, "Actually, Ahmed, Ali hesitated, rubbing his forehead but continued, Zaim is in London, and his exams are ongoing. After that, he has a project to complete. With all these commitments, I don't think he can make it back before a year."
Ali had to lie, as he wasn't sure of Zaim's current situation. He hoped Zaim would come around eventually. Ahmed looked at Ayesha in disbelief before turning back to Ali, "A year? That's a long time, Ali. Can't you call him and ask him to come after his exams? He can go back after the wedding."
Ali looked uncomfortable but tried to hide his concern, "Ahmed, I can't call him right now. We had a bit of a disagreement-not serious, but enough for him to be upset with me." Jessica who was kept looking at him, "You know how stubborn he can be," Ali said with an awkward laugh. "But I'll reach out to him soon. Maybe he'll come in a few months, and we can talk face to face. Don't worry; Zaim will be thrilled to know he's engaged to Helena."
Ahmed nodded, satisfied with the explanation, as he knew Zaim liked Helena and believed he would be happy with the arrangement because he must be the one who told his parents to ask Helena's hand for him. After dinner, Jessica and Ali said their goodbyes and left. And Helena retreated to her room to perform her prayers.
The next day, Zaim was sitting in his office, reviewing a file related to an ongoing deal when his secretary walked in and informed , "Sir, just a reminder-you have a meeting at 6 PM at Velvet Brew Café with DnD Production's CEO."
Zaim was signing some papers when he glanced at Mary's bare feet. He closed the file and whispered under his breath, "Astagfirullah," before humming in acknowledgment while focusing on his laptop screen. Mary thanked him with a slight bow, muttering to herself as she left, "Huh, damn hot piece."
In the evening, after offering his Asr prayer, Zaim was ready to leave. He entered the elevator and tapped the ground floor button. As the elevator descended, a memory surfaced-the day Helena had fainted when the elevator got stuck. He scanned the elevator from top to bottom, a pained smile crossing his face as he recalled the scene. The elevator chimed, snapping him back to reality. The doors opened, and he stepped out.
Outside the company, a guard opened the car door for him. Zaim settled into the back seat, followed by his secretary, who sat in the front. The driver started the car, heading towards the café.
After a short drive, they arrived at Velvet Brew Café, where Helena was already waiting with her male assistant. Zaim approached and his eyes landing on Helena, who he hadn't realized was the boss of DnD Productions. She was wearing a knee-length bodycon dress, her legs bare. Helena stood up from her seat, extending her hand for a handshake.
Zaim pressed his lips into a thin line, unbuttoned his coat, and ignored the gesture, choosing to sit down instead. His secretary remained standing until Zaim signaled her to sit beside him. Helena got embarrassed, she withdrew her hand and glanced at the secretary from head to toe. Zaim began while locking eyes with Helena, "So, Miss..." he stopped a little,
Helena smiled and completed his sentence, "Helena." Zaim smirked inwardly, thinking in his heart, "She can't compare to my Helena. She can't even reach at my Helena's feet."
"So, Mr. Zaim, we finally meet." Helena remarked after seeing him lost in her eyes. Zaim ignored her pleasantries and addressed his secretary, "Mary." Mary opened the file and handed it to Zaim. He glanced at it before sliding it across the table to Helena.
Helena read the terms, her face showing a hint of sarcasm with an impressive look, she then said while looking at him. "Your proposal is impressive, but I can't agree to such a high percentage of the shares."
Just then, a waiter arrived, seeking permission to serve the coffee Helena had ordered earlier. Helena permitted him then He bowed slightly and left after getting their nod. Zaim said straightforwardly, with no concern on his face, "I understand, but 40% is non-negotiable. This product demands a lot of investment and effort from my side."
Helena raised an eyebrow, looking up from the papers. "I see your point, Zaim, but 40% is a high demand. We can only offer 25% given our current resources." Zaim's eyes narrowed slightly, then he leaned forward slightly, looking deep into her eyes he said. "I see where you're coming from, miss DnD, he then rested his body on the chair's head and said again while crossing his arms on his chest,
"I understand your concerns, but I truly believe that my proposal is fair considering the value I bring. I'm asking for a 40% share of the profits due to the significant investment and risk involved in this product.
The waiter brought the coffee, serving an iced Americano to Zaim and a chocolate latte to Helena. Zaim was slightly impressed by Helena's choice and thought that she might have learned about his preferences beforehand.
"It's essential for balancing the risk and reward. I can't lower it to 40% If we can't find common ground, this deal might not work."
The waiter bowed a little and left.
Helena sighed, leaning back in her chair with crossed arms. "I get that you're taking a big risk, but our company is also putting a lot on the line. We need to ensure that the terms are viable for us as well. If we agree to 40%, our profit margins will be severely affected. We need a deal that benefits both sides."
Zaim smirked sarcastically, maintaining his posture. "It will, Miss DnD," he replied, taking a sip of his coffee. Helena got confused, leaning forward a little while placing her arms on the table. She corrected him, "Helena."
Zaim avoided her gaze, responding dismissively, "Whatever." He then placed his coffee back on the table, rubbing the edge of the cup slightly and continued,
"One more thing-I want our company name associated with this product. It's important for us to have our name recognized in the branding."
Helena looked at him in disbelief, smirking as she turned her head away. She was clearly pissed off by his request but composed herself and replied while shifting her gaze towards Zaim, "Zaim, I understand the importance of branding, but including your company name wasn't part of our initial agreement. It's a bit outside our usual rules."
Zaim remained straightforward,
"The choice is yours, Miss DnD." Helena silenced for awhile, considering that Zaim's company was highly reputable in the business world and he grew his company in a short span of time. Collaborating with them was a rare opportunity.
She finally said, "To ensure the success of this partnership, I have a few conditions of my own. You'll have to agree to them."
Zaim took a sigh, smirking slightly, he then said,"Well it depends." Helena looked at him with the constant look, she said, "I want exclusive distribution rights in key markets where we have a strong presence. Additionally All sales and distribution will be handled exclusively by my company. This ensures that every product with your name on it is sold through my channels, under my control. I need to protect the integrity of my brand and ensure that the product reaches the market the way I envision it."
Zaim grabbed the agreement file and signed it, "I'll draft an official agreement with your conditions included, but we need a quick response. Production should start the day after tomorrow."
With that, Zaim stood from his seat, buttoned his coat, and left the café, leaving Helena watching his retreating figure.
It had already been 9 months since Helena and Zaim's engagement, and Ali still didn't know about Zaim's well-being. However, Ahmed kept asking Ali about Zaim, and Ali always said that Zaim would come soon, and then they would marry Helena to Zaim when he arrived and Ahmed agreed every time.
Ahmed and Ayesha were preparing to travel to Canada because Fatima was about to give birth to her first child. However, Helena couldn't join them as she had exams both at her university and Madarsah. Ayesha was worried about leaving Helena alone at home due to her recent condition. While packing her suitcase, she turned to Ahmed and asked, "Ahmed, can't we leave Helena at Jessica's house?"
Ahmed removed his glasses and thought for a moment before nodding in agreement. Ayesha, relieved and said while zipping the suitcase. "Alright then I'll talk to Helena and inform Jessica."
Two days later, Ahmed and Ayesha dropped Helena off at Jessica's house. As they were about to leave, Ayesha cupped Helena's face and said, "Fi aman'illah, my precious daughter." She then kissed Helena on both cheeks. Ahmed stepped closer to her, adding with a warm smile he said, "Take care of yourself, Helena, and try not to tease Jessica and Ali too much, hmm?"
Everyone laughed, and Ahmed placed a gentle kiss on Helena's forehead. Helena felt tears welling up, but she held them back, waving goodbye as they left. Jessica was thrilled that Helena would be staying with her for several days.
Finally, the day came when Rayyan and Fatima welcomed their newborn baby boy. Helena joined them on a video call, her face lighting up as she spoke,
"Yahh Fatima, I wish I could be there to meet my baby boy in person."
Fatima, holding back a laugh, she tried to tease her, "You should've been here, Helena. Look at this handsome little guy-he's already searching for you!"
Helena, feigning a dramatic pout, replied, "yahh, Fatima, don't tease me! I really feel bad about missing this. Look at my little cutie, my baby bear-I miss you my cutiee so much!"
Everyone chuckled at her reaction, and Helena continued the conversation, her expressions a mix of joy and longing.
It had been a week since Zaim had been in his apartment, preparing for his upcoming trip. He was busy packing his belongings, as he had to leave London for Korea later that night. After finishing packing, Zaim headed to the bathroom to take a shower.
Once he was done, he returned to his room, changed out of his bathrobe into casual clothes, and then spread out his prayer mat on the floor. He began performing the Dhuhr prayer, focusing on his connection with Allah before his journey. After completing his tashahhud, Zaim held up his hands and began making dua,
"Ya Illahi, Ya Allah, all praise is to You. I am a sinner, and You are the Forgiver. You have the power to do what seems impossible. Grant me peace, Ya Illahi, for my heart is still restless. Stay with me and let me meet my Rose, Ya Illahi. I'm going to Korea after many years; I can't bear this pain any longer I'm having for many years. I'm going where my Helena lived-let me meet her, Ya Illahi, or give me a sign that will lead me to her. I promise to serve You my whole life, to be a better Muslim, a better servant, and a good spouse. Just let me meet my Helena. I'm still in pain, Allah, ease my suffering, Ya Illahi."
With that, he covered his face with his hands, took a deep breath, and got up from his prayer mat, placing it back in its rightful place. He then decided to go for a walk. After his walk, he went for lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Afterwards Zaim headed to the airport. He had booked a business class seat for his flight. After a long journey, he finally arrived in Korea.
Two days later, John was getting married to the love of his life, and Zaim had promised to attend the wedding because John had blackmailed him and insisted on it. threatening not to get married if Zaim didn't attend. Knowing John, Zaim knew and expected that he was capable of such foolishness.
Later that night, John was sitting on his bed, scrolling through his phone and searching for wedding decorations, while Zaim lay beside him with his hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling with a thoughtful expression. Suddenly, John spoke up while still scrolling through the phone, "I never thought you'd go this crazy over her. I can't believe you searched for her across so many countries. That's foolish, Zaim. How can someone be so madly in love?"
Zaim, still staring at the ceiling, sighed deeply before replying, "She is my heartbeat, my Rose, my only Rose. I love her with all my heart, and I will find her, no matter what John I'll find her. She flows through my veins like blood."
A tear slipped from the corner of Zaim's eye, but he didn't bother wiping it away. "The thought of life without her is like an ocean without water. Sometimes I feel like I've lost her, and I've lost myself too in her. My existence is meaningless without her i would die if I couldn't meet my Helena i'm living on the hope that I will find her someday. She is my everything, John. I can't bear this pain any longer, but I'm still enduring it. Her thoughts and the memories I have of her are enough to keep me going. I will find her soon."
John looked at him in disbelief because He had never seen Zaim like this. Zaim had always stayed away from these kinds of things, and now here he was, bearing immense pain for the sake of a girl.
Zaim then turned his head slightly towards John, still in the same position. "I will do everything to make her mine. She is my everything, my entire universe. She is my addiction, John. I'm going crazy day by day I can't get enough of her, never."
John chuckled and smacked Zaim's arm lightly, "You're a crazy lover, man." Zaim gave him a side glance and then, with a proud tone, said, "Do you think I'm just an ordinary person who will sit idly by and wait for fate to be kind enough to bring my Helena back to me after all these years?"
"I'm not like Salar Sikander, whose marriage, even unintentionally, ended up being with the one he loved after a wait of nine years."
Nor I'm like Cihan Sikander who waited for haya for 5 years, and there are many examples whom they loved many years and their destiny united them after waiting.
Who are they?" John asked, confused about who Zaim was referring to.
Zaim replied, "They are fictional characters from different novels."
John looked at him with disbelief, unsure whether to be shocked or amused by Zaim's obsession. "And why did you start reading novels?" "Because my Rose likes to read," Zaim answered simply. "You're unbelievable, Zaim. You're such a fool for a reason," John responded, shaking his head.
Zaim, still staring at the ceiling, replied, "Nay... I'm not a fool." He sighed and continued, "You know what, John? Allah loves those who work hard for what they truly desire, and then He rewards them with what they love. These are signs for me, and for lovers like me. I've learned many things from them."
"Helena used to read the Quran and religious books, but she also read novels that brought her closer to Allah. When I realized how these novels helped her strengthen her faith, I understood how devoted and pious she was to avoiding anything haram or displeasing to Allah.
I started reading those novels too. I studied the Quran and attended seminars. I've come to understand that the joy and longing achieved through waiting are unmatched by anything else. Now, I keep myself away from all haram things. No other woman holds any significance for me like Helena does.
I am content with just the thought of her, as it is enough for me. She is the queen of my life."
John looked at him again with a shocked expression. "And when did you start believing in God?"
"Since I gained wisdom," Zaim replied.
"Well, you still don't have any wisdom, Zaim," John said sarcastically while laughing a little.
Zaim shot him a death glare and replied with a playful tone, "Yeah, you're right. If I had wisdom, I wouldn't be here."
John sighed deeply and said, "I really hope you find her, Zaim. I hope you find your happiness." I really wish bro.
He then changed the subject, "Okay, now get up, lover boy. Let's go shopping. I need to buy some presents for my wife-to-be, or else she'll kill me."
Zaim chuckled, wiping away a tear with his thumb. He got up from the bed and went with John.
Helena had been staying with Jessica at the Mohammadi Mansion for a week. She was deeply engrossed in sketching dresses alongside Jessica. As Jessica watched her work, she said while her eyes filled with admiration.
"Yah, baby, you're such a great artist. Look at this piece huh! Is this for real? I can't believe it," Jessica exclaimed, clearly impressed.
Helena smiled at her response, her eyes still focused on the sketch. "You know, Aunt Jess," she began, using the affectionate name she had for Jessica, who smiled warmly in response and hummed for her to continue. "I've always dreamed of becoming a great artist-a fashion designer. I wanted to start my own company, hire employees who'd work for me, and have my brand reach every corner of the world."
Jessica listened her attentively, her gaze fixed on Helena with a look of constant admiration. She gently patted Helena's shoulder and said. "If you're interested, I can help you make that dream come true." Helena shook her head, a determined look in her eyes. "No, Aunt Jess. If I pursue that path, I want to achieve it on my own. I want to build my dreams without borrowing money from anyone but I didn't get enough money to start my own company That's why I had to choose a different field."
Jessica remained silent, respecting Helena's decision. Just then, the call to prayer for Isha echoed through the air. Helena looked at Jessica and said, "Auntie, I'll be back after I perform my Salah."
She stood up and headed upstairs. As she walked, her gaze fell on Zaim's room. She saw it every day but always passed by it, as her prayer room was right next to Zaim's. Helena had maintained that space with care, making it a peaceful spot for her prayers, because Jessica had arranged and decorated everything for her according to her taste.
Meanwhile, the day of John's wedding had finally arrived. The beachside venue was decorated according to Emma's taste, filled with expensive whiskey, wine, beer, and a variety of meals. The atmosphere was lively, with everyone dancing to loud music. Even Mia was also there, mingling with the crowd. Zaim, however, felt out of place. he didn't want to stay there more and wanted to go from there, The scene made him uneasy, and he wanted to leave, but John convinced him, refusing to let him go.
Girls in short dresses danced with the boys, Zaim who was feeling increasingly uncomfortable, decided to leave. He had already gifted John and Emma an apartment in Korea and two honeymoon tickets to Bali. Glancing at his wristwatch, he realized it was time for ASR prayer, and he was running out of time. He excused himself and started to leave, but John tried to stop him again.
"Come on, man, you can pray later. Enjoy my wedding! This doesn't happen every day," John urged.
But Zaim shook his head. "I can't, John. I'm not feeling well here." He left without another word, needing to clear his mind.
After completing his ASR prayer, Zaim decided to visit Helena's old house. The driver opened the car door for him, and Zaim settled into the seat, instructing the driver to take him to her address. He reached at the address and stepped out of the car, slipping on his shades as he walked down the narrow street because there was no room to park nearby.
As he approached the gate, he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, letting the familiar scent of the area fill his senses. "I can still smell you, my Rose, my baby even after all these years," he murmured, a bittersweet smile forming on his lips.
When he reached the gate, he noticed the same old padlock hanging on it. He grabbed the padlock and stared at the dusty exterior of the house. He said after leaving the lock, "Where did you go? Why can't I trace you?" he whispered, his voice breaking slightly. A tear welled up in his eye, but he refused to let it fall. After spending a few moments in silence, he turned and walked away.
Zaim checked into a five-star hotel for the night, planning to leave for Japan the following evening. He had always hated Japan, but something inside him told him to go-his heart insisted him. He had some important matters to attend to there too, related to his late mother's belongings.
The next day, Zaim arrived in Japan at 8 PM. He had no desire to visit the Mohammadi Villa, but he had made up his mind to cut all ties with Ali. He also needed to collect his late mother's belongings from the house.
As the car pulled up in front of the mansion, Zaim stepped out from the car and stood in front of the outer structure of the mansion for a moment, staring at the familiar structure with stern eyes. His heart ached as memories flooded back.
"I love you, Mom," he whispered to himself. "I know you loved this mansion so much... I can still hear your laugh." His gaze drifted to the vast garden, and nostalgia overwhelmed him when he was seven years old. He remembered playing with his mother there, her laughter echoing as she chased after him, his own laughter ringing out as he ran away with a wide smile. The memory was vivid, he snapped back to reality, then took a deep breath before walking toward the main hall. The mansion was dimly lit, adding to the heaviness in his chest.
Jesscia was busy in call with her friend and Ali was in his study, as Zaim entered the house he felt his heart pounding in his chest, he stopped for a moment after stepping his one foot on the entrance he got confused that why is he was feeling that much strange. He felt that Helena was somewhere here near him, but he then thought that he came from her house that's why he would be feeling like this, he shook his thought and took a deep breath again then he stepped into the house.
Meanwhile, Helena was sleeping peacefully because she exhausted from the day. She dreamt that she was in a garden filled with roses but the surroundings were all dark. A taller and a handsome man appeared but his face was blurred, approached her, and she stood still, watching him come closer.
Jessica was on a call with a friend, while Ali was in his study. As Zaim entered the house, he felt his heart pounding unexpectedly. He paused for a moment with one foot inside, confusion washing over him. Why did he feel so strange? He had a fleeting thought that Helena might be nearby, but he quickly dismissed the thought, taking a deep breath he stepped into the house with that constant feeling.
Zaim headed straight to the room upstairs, next to Helena's. The door was unlocked since Ali used the room occasionally, and Jessica kept it clean as it once belonged to Ali's first wife. As Zaim passed by Helena's room, his heart signaled him to stop, but he ignored the feeling and continued to his mother's room.
After a while, he quickly gathered his mother's important belongings into a bag. Then, he closed the door behind him and began to leave. But just as he reached the hallway, the sensation returned and urging him to check the nearby room where Helena was sleeping, he approached the door and grabbed the knob, slowly turning it to open the door a crack.
Before he could see inside, Ali's voice rang out. "Who's there?" Zaim froze, turning his head towards the voice he saw Ali stand there, disbelief written all over his face. At first Ali didn't believe in his eyes, he rubbed his eyes and said in disbelief look that what he was seeing, "Zaim?"
Zaim scoffed, closing the door without looking inside. He walked downstairs, intent on leaving from the house but Ali called out again. "Zaim, my child, you finally came," Ali said with a smile but his voice laced with pain. Zaim stopped in his tracks, holding the bag in his hand. Ali's eyes fell on the bag before shifting back to Zaim, who turned to face him but said nothing.
Seeing that Zaim remained silent, Ali spoke again, a smile tugging at his lips despite the hurt in his eyes. "When did you arrive? Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" He stepped forward, but Zaim raised a hand, stopping him in his tracks. Ali stopped in confusion with furrowed his eyebrows, then he heard, "I didn't come here for you," Zaim replied coldly.
At that moment, Jessica heard the noise , she looked at the direction of the door and ended her call abruptly. She stepped out of her room, her eyes widening and jaw dropping when she saw Zaim. He glanced at her, a smirk playing on his lips. Ali, still pleading to him and said, "My son, are you still angry with your dad hmm?"
Zaim laughed bitterly a little "You're nothing to me. I only came here to collect my mother's belongings. I see there's nothing of worth left for her here anymore." Ali's desperation grew. "Zaim, I need to talk to you. You can't leave like this. I've waited for you for so many years and yearned for you."
Zaim's brow furrowed in confusion. "What? Seriously?" he scoffed. "I've yearned for my mother every day until today. And who do you think you are to stop me from leaving?" His voice rose slightly. "Mr. Ali, I cut all ties with you the day you trusted Olivia over your own son. That day, I saw your true face, and I wanted to get as far away from you as possible because being around you made me feel suffocated."
Helena stirred awake, hearing the shouting from downstairs. She got worried then quickly covered her head with a hijab like a dupatta and hurried outside from the room. She stopped near the railing, a strange sensation washing over her as she looked down. Her heart pounded in her chest when she saw Zaim standing there. He looked different-more muscular- more handsome. Her eyes widened in shock, seeing him after so long.
Ali said while his voice still filled with pain, "Don't do this to me, Zaim. I'm your father. Yes, I made a mistake that day-I should have trusted you. But I can't bear being apart from you. I've yearned for you for years. You haven't contacted us even once. We just want your happiness, Zaim. We're not your enemies-we're your parents."
Zaim rolled his eyes, looking away with a smirk before locking eyes with Ali again. "You've all been dead to me since that day, Mr. Ali." Each word he spoke was sharp, heavy with frustration.
Helena who was standing above, narrowed her eyes, a look of disgust crossing her face. How can Zaim say this to his parents? Always being a pathetic. she thought, her contempt for him growing. Ali stared at Zaim in uncertainty he felt a sting in his heart but he spoke bluntly, "You're not going anywhere. I've arranged your marriage, and you're going to marry her in a month."
Zaim looked at him in disbelief at his audacity. He lowered his head while smiling sarcastically, before looking back up with seriousness. Anger surged within him, but he tried to keep his nerves cool as he responded, "Oh, really? Well, I don't agree with that. This is my life, my personal matter. I like someone else, and I'll only marry her. I'm not dependent on your choices, Mr. Ali. She's my everything, and I can't even think of anyone else besides her."
Helena felt as if the ground had been pulled out from under her. Her heartbeat pounded like a drum in her chest, and she gripped the railing tightly, she clenched her jaw, and flashed her eyes with anger. Her heart shattered into pieces once again as tears welled up and streamed down her cheeks.
Jessica's gaze fell on Helena, then grabbed Ali's hand and gestured with her eyes toward the upstairs. Ali followed her gaze and saw Helena standing there. He felt like he was losing everything. He could read Helena's eyes, and it terrified him.
Meanwhile, Zaim said, "Don't ever contact me again. I'm nothing to you." Helena ran to her room and locked the door from the inside. Ali turned his gaze back to Zaim, who suddenly felt a strange sensation wash over him. Zaim then turned his head towards the spot upstairs where Helena had been standing just a moment ago. For a moment, he wanted to go to her, but he shook off the feeling and turned away, leaving the mansion and leaving Ali in despair.
