Henry, curious, walked over to the vending machine.
[Comparable to an ATM in terms of security, don't expect to get anything out without cash!]
Protection like an ATM? Is it really that exaggerated?
Henry raised his fist, wanting to test the durability of the machine.
At that moment, another prompt appeared:
[The vending machine not only has a siren alarm system but is also connected to the nearby police station and broadcasting system. If I were you, I wouldn't do that!]
Seeing this warning, Henry lowered his raised fist.
Having just fought a tough battle, it was not wise to face another horde of zombies now.
Moreover, no one knew how many Crawlers or similar creatures were nearby.
Better to be cautious!
Henry looked at the items inside the vending machine.
There were drinks, self-heating rice meals, and considerately paired with a bottle of purified water!
Boxed instant noodles and ready-to-eat pasta.
Quite a variety of choices!
And the prices weren't high either.
The most expensive was the self-heating meal.
It seems that the prices in this world were quite low.
Henry currently had over five thousand cash on hand.
In this world, that should be considered a substantial amount!
He selected "self-heating meal."
Then, Henry smoothed out a crumpled bill and inserted it into the machine.
Ding!
Quickly, the self-heating rice meal along with purified water dropped out of the machine.
Henry took out the self-heating meal and checked the production date: June 15, 2012.
Shelf life: 20 years!
As expected!
The shelf life of all food products in this world is exceptionally long!
Casually, they all start at ten, twenty years!
Henry stored the self-heating meal in his storage space.
Then he bought a bottle of orange-flavored soda, popped it open, and began drinking heartily.
The taste is quite similar to Fanta on Earth!
Sweet and very refreshing!
"Woof~"
Snow returned to its fluffy, small form.
Its eyes gleaming, it looked eagerly at the drink in Henry's hand, barking impatiently as if to say:
Is it good? I want to try it too!
Henry poured the remaining drink into a plastic bag and placed it in front of Snow.
The little guy trusted Henry completely, not even bothering to sniff it.
He just started licking right away!
After one lick, his eyes brightened, and he hurriedly lapped it up.
Buy, buy, buy, clear them out!
One by one, Henry quickly purchased all the items in the vending machine.
It only cost him about a hundred dollars.
He ended up with 20 bottles of soda, 30 bottles of purified water, 10 beef meals, 10 fish meals,
10 vegetarian meals, 20 boxes of instant noodles, and 10 boxes of ready-to-eat pasta...
Probably because these vending machines are located by the roadside, and the area is overrun
with zombies, they were almost untouched.
Henry also visited a few shops nearby.
All the freezers and vending machines had been completely emptied.
They must have been consumed by the locals of this world!
After clearing the street of zombies, Henry and Snow headed to a nearby gas station.
With a gentle wave of his left hand, a heavy truck appeared out of nowhere next to him.
Henry opened the fuel tank, inserted the fuel nozzle, and let it refuel automatically.
Meanwhile, he took a stroll around the gas station's small convenience store.
Nothing was left, just a few bottles of windshield washer fluid and motor oil scattered haphazardly on the shelves and floor.
From behind the gas station convenience store, Henry found four empty oil drums, which he took.
He filled them up—two with gasoline and two with diesel.
Although there was still plenty of gasoline and diesel at the gas station, Henry couldn't carry any more due to limited container space. He marked the location of the gas station on the map with a circle to note it for future reference. Then, he set off towards his next destination—the department store!
Henry scanned the shops along the way with his gaze. There were no supply boxes inside, only a few scattered zombies. However, despite the recent noise, they hadn't come out, indicating they were trapped and unable to escape—no worries there.
Henry then turned his attention to the brightly lit department store. Immediately, a prompt popped up:
[Multiple Type II mutated zombies inside, be cautious! There's a Level 2 supply box in the gym on the third floor!]
Multiple Type II mutated zombies?
Henry noted that the prompt did not specify multiple Crawlers, but rather multiple Type II mutated zombies! This indicates that Type II mutated zombies come in various types, with Crawlers being just one of them. And there's a Level 2 supply box inside?
Just for that Level 2 supply box, it was worth a try!
Henry again drew his shield and Katana, slowly entering the store. Upon reaching the entrance of the department store, Snow instantly sensed danger and transformed to a larger size, following Henry cautiously inside.
The department store's automatic glass doors were smeared with bloody handprints, and the floor was streaked with bloody drag marks. Yet, the first-floor lobby was eerily quiet—no zombies in sight. Other than the melodious music repeatedly playing over the store's PA system, the only sounds were Henry's light footsteps and the soft pat-pat of Snow's large paws hitting the floor.
"Where have all the zombies gone?" Henry felt a tinge of puzzlement.
If upon opening the door, dozens or even hundreds of zombies had rushed out, Henry would have felt more reassured.
That would have been normal.
But now, the absence of even a single zombie made Henry especially vigilant.
"Hey!"
Henry suddenly shouted loudly.
Then he struck the cosmetics counter on the first floor hard with his shield.
Crack!
Due to his uncontrolled strength, the entire cosmetics counter instantly collapsed.
Glass shattered everywhere.
Such a loud noise should have surely drawn out some zombies.
But... still no zombies appeared!
"Are there any zombies?"
Henry shouted again!
"Roar~ roar~"
Snow also roared in response.
Silence...
It was uncertain if it was because the music in the mall was too loud, drowning out any noise the zombies might make.
Even as Henry tried to extend his senses, he still couldn't hear any abnormal sounds.
There had to be zombies here!
But where had all the zombies gone?!
Henry and Snow made a round on the first floor.
This was the cosmetics section.
In a post-apocalyptic world, it was unlikely anyone would still think about makeup.
However, skincare products and perfumes should still have a market demand and could be kept for trade!
Ding! Collection successful, congratulations you have obtained:
[Foundation]*75, [Skincare Products]*120, [Perfumes]*40, [Various Shades of Lipstick]*1255, [Makeup Remover]*112, [Cash]*5345, [Counter Staff Uniforms]*3...
After scouring the area, Henry took the elevator to the second floor.
"Heh heh..."
"Aow~"
"Uh..."
Just as he arrived on the second floor, he heard a chilling chorus of zombie roars.
Directly at the entrance of a children's education center on the second floor, a dense mass of zombies had accumulated.
Golden light shone from inside the room.
Under the illumination, the zombies turned into dense, dark silhouettes, with countless hands waving against the glass.
The scene was utterly terrifying!
