A Harmonious Meal

Twenty minutes later.

Cantrell knocked on the door with a cheerful smile, then walked into Slater's office.

Slater had just finished preparing breakfast.

Instant noodles and sausages.

Just two servings.

One in front of himself, and the other across the table, clearly intended for Cantrell.

"How about it? How did your morning exercise go today?" "Encounter any zombies?" Slater asked with a smile.

After speaking, he took a big bite of sausage and chewed it slowly.

His face full of enjoyment.

"Hey, I was actually just about to report to you!" "Yesterday, a lot of people said they've been cooped up in the camp for too long, and it's wearing them down!" "I figured since you're planning to form the sixth collection team!"

"I took this opportunity to get them out for some physical training, pick out some promising recruits, and that way the team would be practically formed!" "I even handed over a plan for forming it last night, I don't know if he told you?"

Cantrell looked at the sausage in front of him, inhaling the aroma from the noodles.

He couldn't help but swallow.

But he didn't start eating.

His morning outing with the group was certainly not for a jog.

It was to defect to others.

However, when they arrived at the designated restaurant at the bridgehead, they found that it had already been abandoned!

There were even words written on the wall: "The camp has fallen."

The North River camp had fallen.

Cantrell's first thought was that zombies had done it.

Now, with just a bridge separating South River and North River, crossing rashly would be suicidal.

Better to return to the camp and plan slowly.

After all, there was no shortage of food and drink in the camp; they could get by for a few more days.

Once Scott's side has collected enough supplies, they plan to take a few pretty girls and strike out on their own!

Why should anyone listen to Slater just because he established the camp early?

Cantrell had his own schemes.

Feeling guilty, he dared not eat.

Slater pretended not to notice Cantrell's cautiousness, eating his instant noodles while casually saying:

"Everyone has told me, and I really appreciate your suggestion!"

"Now, we have too few strong people like you in the camp, having you here gives me peace of mind."

"I'm also planning to combine squads 4, 5, and 6 into one company, commanded by Scott!"

"You'd be the deputy company commander, in charge of the supplies!"

Slater swallowed his noodles and continued with a smile:

"As you know, our management and supply rights are separated to balance each other out."

"You and Scott are good friends, I think he won't have any objections only if you are the deputy commander."

"What do you think?"

Slater finished speaking, looking kindly at Cantrell.

"This... I will definitely complete the task you assign to me!"

"I can't forget that you helped me when I was in my toughest times, and gave me a safe place to stay!"

"I will certainly do well as the deputy company commander, serving the camp and you!"

Cantrell couldn't help but smile smugly.

Was Slater too naive?

Focused solely on promoting him.

Once he became the deputy company commander, along with Scott as the company commander, wouldn't it be even easier to break away in the future?!

Ha, Slater really is a fool!

Thinking this, Cantrell finally let down his guard and took a bite of the noodles.

Ah, delicious!

"You go ahead and eat, I still have half a bottle of Coke, I'll pour you some!"

Slater smiled, stood up, and walked behind Cantrell.

He twisted open the Coke bottle.

"There's Coke too?"

Cantrell felt almost blissfully happy.

What's with Slater today?

Normally, there's a power outage, making it not so easy to get hot water.

Yet today, there's hot water for instant noodles, sausages, and even Coke for himself!

This is almost like the treatment you'd get in a top restaurant during peacetime.

It's too good to be true!

"But... something's not right!"

Cantrell's smile suddenly froze.

Slater was behind him; could he be plotting something?

Panicking, Cantrell quickly turned around.

But he saw Slater's left hand gripping a large vase and his right hand holding a gun.

Before Cantrell could react, the vase slipped from his hand, shattered on the floor.

At the same time, the gun fired!

At such a close distance, and with Slater attacking from behind,

Even though Cantrell had reached the physical limit in strength, he couldn't dodge in time.

And there's a difference between being at a physical limit and being an Awakener.

Even at his limit, he was still just flesh.

He couldn't withstand a bullet!

With a bang!

The sound of the gunshot and the vase shattering occurred almost simultaneously!

Afterward, Cantrell fell into a pool of blood, his eyes wide with disbelief.

"Collect!"

Slater reached out and touched Cantrell, immediately gathering all the supplies and Energy Cores from his body!

In an instant, Slater seemed transformed.

His muscles became even more defined, and he even seemed to have grown a bit taller.

He had successfully advanced to the physical limit level!

However...

Just one person at the physical limit, plus a gun...

It seemed slightly inadequate against Scott's squad...

"What happened? Is everything okay?"

A few minutes later, Robertson, along with several members of the city defense squad, rushed in, their faces filled with anxiety.

"It's nothing serious, no need for alarm, just a broken vase!"

Slater said with a smile.

At this point, Cantrell's body had already been collected, leaving nothing behind.

Even the leftover sausages and instant noodles he had eaten were collected by Slater into his storage space.

No evidence was left at the scene.

"Oh, that's a relief then. I had just settled those people in the bus when I rushed over here!" Robertson said, concerned.

"You're okay, that's good. Cantrell must have really upset you."

"Let it go, he decided to leave, and there was nothing I could do about it."

"Though getting angry and smashing things was wrong of me, I'll reflect on that..."

"I hope they decide to change their lazy ways," Slater said with a helpless expression.

"Well... I'll bring the city defense squad with you, they have more people, and in case there's trouble, there will be support!" Robertson suggested.

"No need, I can go alone!"

"After all, the most important thing is to do ideological work and build trust with everyone."

"Bringing a group would just look like we're asking for a fight."

"How would they trust us then?"

"Just give me a machete, having something for self-defense is enough!" Slater said lightly.

"That works... just be careful!"

"If anything happens, use the intercom to call us, and we will come to support you!" Robertson was still a bit worried and repeatedly instructed.

"Got it, this time... it's very safe!"

Slater's mouth curved into a confident smile...
