Visha's laughter echoes through the restaurant, drawing curious glances from the other customers.
But whatever.
As I look at her, perplexed by her reaction, she just gives me a playful look.
-You know I hate it when you act like you're Donovan's little dog, she admitted to me.
-I never acted like a puppy towards anyone, I replied
-That's what you think, she smiled amusedly, haven't you noticed that Donovan kept you away from everyone you knew?
-...
-You no longer have a friend Huyn, she adds, you find yourself alone and you only have one solution: cling to Donovan like a lost dog
-You might be right, I replied, but now I'm going to live my life without him
-Naive, she replies
-I'm leaving, I said to him, I hope the water has cooled your thoughts
-Hahaha, she laughed
As I leave the restaurant, I feel relief wash over me.
But before I can even enjoy this moment of tranquility, my phone vibrates again.
He's my manager.
-Hello ?
-Is dinner finished?, my manager asked me
-Yeah, I answered him on the phone
-How did it go?, he asks me, a hint of apprehension in his voice.
-It was exhausting, I explained to him, this girl is so mean
-Yeah, but tell yourself that you won't see her again, tried
-She only seeks to cause problems all the time, I added, I could never forget everything she put me through
-One day you will succeed in moving forward, my manager suddenly told me
-I can't wait for that day, I replied with a faint smile on my lips.
-I have to leave you, my manager told me, a car will be waiting to take you back
-Okay, thank you, I replied.
I hang up before laughing weakly. The presence of my ex-fiancé's sister destabilized me. But I'm relieved that our meal was cut short.
Arriving home, I was greeted by my parents' bodyguard who was waiting patiently outside the door. His impassive expression always reassures me, even in the most tumultuous moments.
I give him a brief nod, before heading towards my living room where my parents were waiting for me.
-I heard that you want to redo your album?, my mother said to me
-Yeah, that's true, I replied.
-Your concert is in two weeks, said my father sternly, or will you find time to make another album?
-I think you should keep the album, my father urged me
-Dad, I can't keep him, I told him in a voice that was starting to break.
I heard my mother sigh.
-I don't know what happened with Donovan but you have to sort it out, my mother said to me
-Mom I-
-No Huyn the marriage will take place, my father cut me off
-We can't cancel, my mother sighed, we have already paid most of the costs and on top of that your grandmother is impatiently waiting for your wedding
We're not afraid that she won't stand it, my father explained to me.
My mother glanced briefly at my father before looking at me.
-But if you finish your album, we'll see if you talk to your grandmother about the fact that you want to cancel the engagement, my mother added, sighing.
I look at them in surprise.
-Really?, I asked them naively
-Yes, they told me, we are waiting for you to finish your album
-Okay, I'm going to trust you, I told them
My parents hug me before releasing me a few seconds later.
-Thank you, I replied to them
Maybe my manager was right that my parents could understand me and accept the end of the engagement.
-Is your cheek better?, asked my mother
-Yeah a little better, don't worry, I reassured her before adding, I'll leave you, I'll go to my room
I give them one last smile before going upstairs to go to my room. I gently close my door before leaning against it.
Everything is starting to go back to normal, I whispered to myself
My thoughts wander, trying to escape from this room that seems to shrink around me.
The desire to go out, to feel the fresh air on my face, becomes irresistible. The second floor shouldn't be an obstacle, I tell myself.
I look around me, my eyes fall on a pile of clothes. An idea then comes to mind. Without missing a beat, I tie them together, forming a sort of rudimentary ladder. I hang them securely on my windowsill.
Once the preparation is complete, I take a deep breath and launch myself into the unknown. Descending along this improvised "rope" requires concentration and courage.
When my feet finally hit the ground. A feeling of accomplishment came over me.
I walk through the portal, feeling the adrenaline coursing through my veins.
Once outside, I hail a taxi, eager to see what the outside world had to offer.
