Chapter 38: Lafra's Memory (Part 2)

"Elizabeth, I'm sorry, it was all my fault yesterday, please forgive me..." Elizabeth silently watched the man on his knees before her, holding her in his agony, feeling nothing inside.

How many times had it been? Every night he got drunk, Elizabeth would be beaten, no matter how desperately she cried and screamed, the man never stopped.

Then, every morning, he would come to her weeping, begging Elizabeth to forgive him, but she had no hope left for this man.

Perhaps, as he said, he was her father, but that was all in the past. The man he once was indeed a good father, but now, he was more like a beast lost in alcohol.

Elizabeth could hardly imagine what her life would become if this continued.

She touched her cheek, bruised, all his doing, and even the jewelry her mother had left was taken by him to sell for drink.

He was even planning to sell the castle, their family castle, but no one wanted to take it off their hands.
