Chapter 2: Attribute Panel

As the icy voice echoed in his mind, a data panel also appeared before Li Ang's eyes.

Name: Li Ang

Strength: 6.91

Constitution: 7.03

Response: 10.26

Spirit: 13.14

Breakthrough Points: 0.03

Describing Li Ang's current state as "heart racing at a hundred and eighty miles per hour" couldn't be more apt.

The sense of exhilaration surpassed even the intensity of his first time holding hands and dancing with his secret crush during junior high.

Although two of the values on his panel were clearly below the normal level, Li Ang didn't care at all; as long as he could climb up bit by bit, even the lowest starting point would lead to a bright future.

Unlike the version of himself in the previous world who, despite being above average in many aspects when compared to society, saw no hope for advancement.

This despair could be described as seeing one's own future or the inability to see it at all.

Li Ang, calming his emotions, thought deeply about his current situation.

The most important piece of information just now, aside from the panel, was the fleeting "[Gained Breakthrough Points 0.03]."

So, what was he doing when he gained those points?

Obviously, Li Ang turned his gaze to the hamburger wrapper still dotted with grease stains.

To verify his hypothesis, Li Ang quickly devoured the remaining pizza with a few gulps of water.

Ordinarily, his appetite wouldn't allow him to finish all this food, but now his focus wasn't on the food at all, so he couldn't care less about feeling too full.

Sure enough, about two or three minutes after finishing the pizza, the same message appeared before him again.

[Gained Breakthrough Points 0.05]

"Can eating actually grant me Breakthrough Points?" Li Ang muttered to himself.

"But that's not scientific. The food has just entered my stomach; it's only at the very beginning of digestion..."

"Screw science! If science was of any use, I wouldn't be seeing this panel right now," he retorted.

In just an instant, Li Ang figured it out.

Why be obsessed with the principle of this thing? What's most important now is to understand the rules and then make maximum use of them.

Afterward, Li Ang performed various tests, which included but were not limited to exercising, reading, speaking, drinking water, and killing bugs...

Ultimately, he found that only the action of eating seemed to allow him to gain Breakthrough Points.

At the same time, Li Ang also realized that he could simply use his will to convert Breakthrough Points into his own attributes.

With that, things became much simpler; if nothing else worked, he still knew how to eat.

He looked at his attribute panel. For now, he didn't need to pay much attention to [Reaction] and [Spirit], which were innately superior. Between [Strength] and [Constitution], without hesitation, he chose to enhance [Constitution] first.

Having experienced sub-health and declining physical conditions, he knew that although strength was useful, Constitution was the foundation of the body.

Moreover, he still had an injury on his head, and a higher Constitution would also mean stronger recovery capabilities.

Even though Constitution only increased by 0.1, Li Ang acutely felt the subtle changes in his body.

The fatigue from not having rested well was swept away.

It also gave Li Ang a sense of truly being in control of his body.

Keep in mind, this was probably just a 1.4% change in his Constitution, less than the normal daily fluctuation.

Previously, he certainly did not have this sensitivity; he secretly speculated that this might be due to his current 30% above average [Spirit], a talent brought about by his present condition.

After figuring all this out, Li Ang counted how much money he had left.

Unfortunately, even with the coins hidden in the drawer, his entire fortune added up to just over three thousand two hundred dollars.

For a student, this actually wasn't too little, provided he didn't have to bear the expenses of the household.

After all, just the property tax for this country house cost over eight hundred dollars a year.

The inheritance he received, after estate taxes were deducted, was just enough to cover his tuition fees.

If it weren't for the government's assistance, he couldn't even have sustained himself up till now.

As for attending university, the original inhabitant of the body had no such plans—not because he couldn't get in, but because he simply couldn't afford it.

He definitely did not want to spend a decade or more paying off student loans after graduation.

The current Li Ang, of course, had no plans to attend any damn university. His only thought was to become freaking stronger.

Just now, he had finished off the little food that was left at home.

There was a small store in the town nearby, but after some thought, Li Ang decided to ride his neighbor's old lady-style bicycle—which even their eight-year-old kid despised—to the larger supermarket further away.

Firstly, the large supermarket had a more complete variety of goods, and relatively speaking, the prices were also cheaper.

He also wanted to exercise more, to train his physical strength and at the same time burn more energy so he could eat more.

To be able to carry more items, Li Ang had even tied an extra wooden frame to the back seat of the bicycle, and along with the front basket and some items hanging on the handlebars, he could actually carry quite a bit.

The moment he straddled the bicycle, Li Ang truly felt as if he had returned to his high school days.

His body might be a bit frail now, but that youthful vigor was something the previous him could never match.

Riding this rickety bike along the straight road, looking at the vast fields on either side, Li Ang felt like he had endless energy.

But that was just an illusion; after riding about six or seven kilometers, he could clearly feel that his strength was waning, and his speed gradually slowed down.

He was only halfway to the large supermarket, which was inevitably somewhat disheartening.

However, with the substantial consumption of physical energy, he felt his stomach was no longer full, and he was able to eat more.

"Beep beep!"

The sound of a car horn came from behind. Li Ang turned his head and found it was Miss Sheila from next door.

In his memory, he had received her help quite a few times over the past few years.

For him, an alone Chinese immigrant, it was an unexpected and rare fortune.

This thirty-something single woman, apart from being a bit sharp-tongued, really had no other faults to pick on.

"Hey, kid, where are you heading? I'm quite worried that if you keep pedaling like this, you'll drop dead on this road."

The golden hair, the pale skin, paired with the lazy tone issuing from those bright red lips, made it truly hard to refuse.

"I... I think I can manage on my own, thanks, Miss Sheila."

The sudden influx of information made Li Ang change his mind; he swallowed back the words of agreement he was about to say.
