Planning the Trip

Excitement and nerves mingled in Avin's thoughts as he considered his impending journey to Tamil Nadu to see Maya. The idea of visiting her, experiencing her world firsthand, and perhaps understanding her even better had been growing in his mind since their last conversation. That evening, he sat on his familiar spot by the Ashtamudi Lake, the calm waters reflecting the myriad thoughts racing through his mind.

Avin pulled out his phone, opening the note app where he'd been jotting down his plans. "First, to book the train ticket," he murmured to himself, aware that traveling by train would give him time to gather his thoughts—and perhaps prepare what he wanted to say to Maya. He wanted everything to be perfect, to make a good impression, not just on Maya but also on her mother, knowing how much her approval meant.

After securing his train ticket, Avin's next step was to plan out the small gifts he intended to bring. "Something that represents Kerala," he thought, hoping to share a piece of his home with her. He decided on a beautifully crafted wooden boat, a symbol of Kerala's famed backwaters, and some packets of homemade banana chips, a snack he had proudly shared during their online chats.

As he packed his bag, Avin couldn't help but feel a whirlwind of emotions. He was anxious about how the visit would unfold, excited to see Maya again, and hopeful about what the future might hold for them. He rehearsed conversations in his mind, each scenario playing out differently. "Nee enna ninaikire?" (What do you think?), he imagined asking her, seeking her thoughts on deep, personal matters they had touched upon in their chats.

Before going to bed, Avin texted Maya: "Just booked my ticket. I'll be in Coimbatore this weekend. Can't wait to see your city through your eyes."

Her immediate response, filled with emojis and exclamation marks, only added to his growing anticipation. They agreed to meet at the train station, and from there, embark on a weekend exploring Coimbatore together.

That night, as Avin lay in bed, the sounds of the night lulling the town to sleep, he felt a sense of purpose that had eluded him for years. This trip wasn't just about the miles he would travel, but the personal journey he was on—a journey towards self-discovery, friendship, and perhaps something even deeper with Maya.
