Chapter 3 You, Smell Good

Sophisticated and hard to understand.

Suddenly feeling a surge in her heart, Lian Qiao raised her head coquettishly to meet his cold, piercing eyes. Her aura instantly weakened significantly, then, with a smile that looked almost forced, she said, "Commander, I'm sorry, it's a misunderstanding, just a misunderstanding. The military and police are all one family, right? Could you... perhaps let this go?"

Under the cover of night, this woman's eyes sparkled like lacquer, dazzling and full of spiritual energy. The smile on her face bloomed like a flower, with two pretty dimples that made her look like a dark night poppy in full bloom.

She was definitely an extraordinary creature among demons.

Silence, continued silence.

After a long moment—

"Quite a fighter?" Xing Liehuo raised an eyebrow and asked with deadpan seriousness.

Tsk!

Lian Qiao smiled with an innocent charm, "Reporting to the commander, it's just that this soldier's combat strength is too weak, really makes one... doubt the current state of our national defense."

His expression changed abruptly. Xing Liehuo pushed the car door open fiercely and stepped out. His piercing gaze landed on her, and his presence exuded a 'sour' chill like the King of Hell himself.

Lian Qiao's breath hitched.

How dare she stir things up further? The sight of his tall figure alone was intimidating. To be honest, her height of 165 cm was standard among her female peers, but damn it...

Such grievance!

This cold King of Hell, wasn't he almost 190 cm tall? Poor her, she could only reach his shoulder, feeling Alike Mount Tai was pressing down on her—

Anyone with martial arts training knew that a height advantage could be extremely significant in a physical confrontation.

Her heart pounding, she slowly backed away.

With his sharp eyes sweeping over her, Xing Liehuo commanded in a deep voice, "Come here."

"In your dreams!" Lian Qiao, who didn't respond well to coercion, decided to go all out against him that day, remembering her father's words, 'Better to die than be captured; a person must have backbone.'

Shifting her stance, she clenched her fists and took up a fighting posture, her eyes wary, as she contemplated another way out.

If worst came to worst, she would just run! It's not the end of the world to stop being a traffic cop.

Little did she expect that just as the thought crossed her mind, it felt like she was hit by a sudden gust of wind. Her neck felt as if it was caught in Sun Wukong's Tight-Binding Spell, squeezing painfully tight.

In her panic, she lost her footing and stumbled straight into the arms of the King of Hell.

"Little policewoman, stop struggling. Follow our Commander Xing, and you'll get to enjoy the finer things—" Wei Liao, who was watching the drama unfold from inside the car, whistled and laughed demonically. Instead of pushing away the little policewoman, the boss smoothly wrapped his arm around her slender waist.

How entertaining, a demon descends from the sky, ready to take care of this chick!

"Thought you were quite capable, huh?" Looking down at her from his superior height, Xing Liehuo tightened his grip on her neck, his brows and eyes full of rage, yet failing to realize that he hadn't let go of the woman in his arms.

In that instant, Lian Qiao tasted a tang of sweetness in her throat.

Barbaric man, like a rogue monster crawled out from a primitive forest, his grip was way too harsh, suffocating her. Internally she cursed his entire family, but outwardly she had no choice but to plead, "Commander, I, I'm not deserving of death!"

"You, you smell nice." Holding her soft waist tighter, Commander Xing suddenly blurted out something utterly unrelated.

Then, he pushed her into the car and took a seat beside her, his movements swift and decisive. He immediately ordered in a low voice, "Wei Liao, drive!"

Click!

The car doors were locked.

The commander's vehicle was indeed extraordinary, spacious and comfortable, and exquisitely luxurious.

But Lian Qiao, filled with grief and resentment, had no time to appreciate the scenery as she sat stiffly and resigned, her misty eyes brimming with unshed tears. Watching the SUV speed away, the glow of the reflective vest growing fainter, she rubbed her arm, subtly aching from the rough grasp of the beastly man, and cursed under her breath—

"This is the harsh reality, this is the damn chaos of power. Every young master, every second-generation rich kid, every aristocratic scion is up to no good."

Then she thought again...

Her heart was pounding like a little deer.

What on earth did this man want to do?

Confused, what should she do?

Beg him, "Commander, please spare me"? No way.

Play the long game, biding her time for a chance to annihilate him? Challenging.

It was maddening, suffocating, infuriating!

Glaring at the constantly changing expressions on her small face, Xing Liehuo asked in a deep voice, "Your name?"

With nerves on edge, Lian Qiao forced out a smile conforming to the Lian family standard, "Reporting to the commander, Lian Qiao."

"Lian Qiao?" He repeated, frowning as if deep in thought.

"Reporting to the commander, Lian Qiao, an herb name, clears heat, detoxifies, removes fire, blooms early in spring, leaves first then flowers, fragrance subtle and delicate, adorns the branches in golden yellow, bright and lovely."

She recited mechanically, emphasising each word, not to impress him but to annoy him.

Xing Liehuo's brows furrowed slightly, and he continued in silence.

In the night, a faint fragrance lingered, bestowing a sense of inexplicable peace.

Lian Qiao, subtle and delicate fragrance?

His eyes darkened, and he suddenly leaned in close, his large hand clamping her delicate chin, lifting it to meet his gaze as he asked word by word, "What's that scent on you?"

The massive body leaned in like a mountain, his purely masculine scent mixed with a hint of tobacco assaulting her senses, umm... under the oppression of his large and formidable frame, she felt even more petite.

Could she escape from such a stark contrast in body size?

Oh, the tragedy!

She wanted to back away... but her back was against the car door; there was nowhere to retreat.

The sound of her heartbeat and her chaotic breathing mingled together.

Her chin throbbed from his grip; she wanted to push him away, but she was no match for him in strength or force.

With no other option, she faked a laugh, "Me? A reincarnation of a fragrant concubine. They say when I was born, stars circled above, the delivery room was filled with spiritual energy. The fortune-teller said if I had been born in ancient times, I'd have the fate of a phoenix!"

Okay, she was bluffing.

After scrutinizing her for a moment, Xing Liehuo released her and moved back to his original position, uttering a low humph.

"Try reincarnating again."

Lian Qiao was shocked. Was the commander suggesting she time-travel? Or be reborn?

Of course, she didn't ask.

The car continued in silence.

One red light, then another; the car sped towards the outskirts, further and further from the city, into more remote areas, the atmospheric pressure growing heavier. In front of this beastly man, all her usual defiance was gone.
