1. 49. Engaged No More (Part 2)

The private room became silent again after Leah's announcement.

Everyone was dumbfounded, though for different reasons.

Zed was the least shocked. He had known and expected that Leah would follow through and never back down on her words. He anticipated this meeting would be brief, but not this brief.

Being closest to the door, he stepped ahead of Leah to open it for her.

Zhou Chun was also stunned and mechanically followed suit.

"Wait!"

Zed was about to open the door when someone shouted. Zhou Chun flinched and nervously looked at Leah, who was in front of her.

Sigh—

Leah turned around with irritation on her face.

"Have I not made myself clear?" she asked, glaring at the person who spoke. Her smile carried a sarcastic tone.

It was Zhao Bolin.

He stepped back after receiving Leah's sharp words and deadly glare. Zhao Bolin had never seen this side of Liu Leah before. When Wang Haoran and Liu Leah were engaged, she was always polite and respectful to those closest to Wang Haoran, especially in the past two months, even if she was mistreated.

Gulp—

He became silent, unsure of what to do. Somehow, this Liu Leah in front of them differed from the one they knew. He could feel it, and so could everyone in the room.

Zhao Bolin then looked at Wang Haoran, who was faring no better.

His eyes were wide open, and his jaw lowered slightly like he could not believe what was happening.

The Liu Leah in front of him was the same one he saw the first day they had their blind date, minus the coldness. 

"Are you sure about this?" Wang Haoran finally opened his mouth while looking Leah in the eyes without moving them away, seemingly waiting for her to renegade what she had just said.

Leah looked at Wang Haoran thoughtfully, "Hmmm, he looked like the ideal prince charming in every girl's heart. Feminine and masculine at the same time. Paired with that suit, he looked like a successful third-generation 'chaebol.'"

Looking at the quiet Liu Leah, who seemed to be thinking about considering his words, Wang Haoran added, "I broke up with Li Mei, and it was true she was pregnant with twins. I am the father, but she had a miscarriage after the accident."

Gasp—

Leah and her companions gasp, showing surprise subtly except Wang Defu and Wang Haoran's side. It was the same news Wang Defu, and his assistant received in the morning and confirmed by the private detectives Wang Defu hired.

"My condolences," Leah spoke, her sarcastic smile went into a frown.

"But what does that have to do with me breaking our engagement?" She asked addedly.

Gasp—

It was Wang Haoran and Wang Defu's side who gasped.

"But—but that was the reason why you wanted to break the engagement." 

Zhao Bolin was the one who boldly spoke. He and everyone in the room were still treating Leah like Liu Leah, who was head over heels for Wang Haoran.

"Well, yes, that is one of them," Leah mentioned.

"So, now that Wang Haoran broke off with Li Mei, you do not need to break the engagement." Zhao Bolin again reasoned. He was speaking ahead of the parties involved.

"I did not know you were Liu Leah, knowing why she wants to break her engagement?" Zhou Chun could not take it anymore and retorted.

Zhao Bolin was triggered and pointed at Zhou Chun. "You— You—"

"I what? You better shut your trap and let the two talk. If anyone saw this, they would think you are Wang Haoran's fiancée," Zhou Chun immediately retorted against Wang Haoran's assistant.

"Pffff—wahahah!" Leah started snickering until she laughed out loud.

"Wang Haoran, I really didn't think you would bring such an impudent person to this meeting," she added, wiping away the tears formed from laughing aloud.

When Leah laughed, she mesmerized everyone in the room. Her laughter reminded Wang Haoran of the days he felt nothing but calm and peace. He snapped out of it when he heard his name and the meaning behind Liu Leah's words.

He got up and walked closer to Leah, whispering and promising in her ear, "Let's not break the engagement. I will never do what I did these past two months ever again. We can even have the wedding next month."

Wang Haoran played with the hair that touched Leah's cheeks and added, "Let's start fresh…"

Zed moved subconsciously, about to reach Leah and pull her towards him, but Leah stepped back, hitting Zed's chest in the process.

"Are you alright?" he asked, almost whispering near Leah's right ear. His warm breath brushed against her right cheek. His arms encircled Leah, nearly hugging her, while his hands held her hips.

"I'm fine," Leah said, looking sideways with a smile, then looking ahead.

"You can let me go," she muttered.

"Hmmm," Zed acquiesced, letting his arms and hands go but not stepping back. His gaze remained fixed on Leah. He knew she wouldn't stay here for more than five minutes.

Leah took a deep breath and fixed her gaze on Wang Haoran.

"Wang Haoran, I do not care if you got all the female employees of your company pregnant and broke up with them after they had miscarriages. I do not care if you go out with a Lin Mei, Xie Mei, or whatever Mei.

"Wang Haoran, we are over. Our engagement is over. Our relationship is over."

Leah looked around the room and announced, "Gentlemen, enjoy the view and food, and have a great day."

"This might be the last time we will see each other."

"Trust me, you will never see even my shadow." Leah additionally thought.

She turned around and walked out with Zed ahead, opening the door for her. Zhou Chun followed with a sigh of relief. She honestly thought that Liu Leah might soften after Wang Haoran's promise and seduction.

Slurp—

Wang Defu finished his coffee and dabbed his mouth elegantly. He stood up and looked at Wang Haoran and his assistant.

"I suddenly lost my appetite. I will also go ahead." He turned around and left the room, with Mr. Cao, like Zed, opening the door and following suit.

A dumbfounded Zhao Bolin and Wang Haoran were left behind. They both couldn't believe what had happened.

They came here expecting that Liu Leah was just making a scene for Wang Haoran to notice her since he had not visited her in the hospital. They thought she was just acting up to monopolize Wang Haoran, that she was finally using her brain to get Wang Haoran. However, what is this situation? Liu Leah cut everything off with the Wang family and Wang Haoran.

"W-what about the plan? We need her to achieve completion and success for those plans. What about big sister Li Mei!?" Zhao Bolin shouted.

"I will talk to Liu Leah," Wang Haoran said. He was also about to run after Liu Leah when a ringtone was heard.

Ring—

A ringtone that was not supposed to ring suddenly echoed.

Zhao Bolin had not silenced one of his phones. He hurried and looked for it.

While Wang Haoran gave him a questioning look, Zhao Bolin answered the call and ended it immediately.

He explained, "It was my private phone. It's directly connected to family and big sister Mei."

"The nurse called, saying that she is currently having a panic attack and shouting your name to come to her."
