46: The Last Wonder Soldier III

"Mom!" Jay continued to cry out, as he waited for his parents to negotiate with the Wonder Soldier. "Dad..."

The teenage girl stood by Red King's side, and her blades where still up in the air.

Eugene clenched his jaw, but eventually, he dropped the forcefield. The transmigrator immediately lifted himself up from the ground and ran towards his caretakers, using what little energy he had left.

The Red King pick up the toddler, and Jay was panting as he rested his head on his male caretaker's shoulder. His female caretaker's traced his face, and Jay happily leaned into her touch.

A soft smile came on JJ's lips along with a sigh of relief. Jay couldn't help but smile back. His violet eyes then glanced at the blades still in the air.

Huh. Those are the brand new kitchen knives that they got a few days ago.

"Who's the social worker?" The Red King's voice was cold towards his brother even when he's hugging Jay.

"Don't kill him, Jay." The Wonder Soldier paused for a bit to rephrase his words. "I don't want you to hurt him. He doesn't know who you are. He just pointed out you looked like someone he saw."

"I don't trust you to not rat us out to the USC." JJ's knives began spinning again, but they didn't get any closer to the Wonder Soldier. "Nor do I trust your social worker friend, Eugene Romanov."

Just as she finished her sentence, her companion leaned in closer to her, taking Jay with him.

"Did you hear what he said about fighting KJ?" The teenage boy whispered, fully aware that he's adding fuel to the flames.

"He did what?!?" His companion's words weren't stubble.

"Eugene said it was for self defense. Self defense. From our baby." The Red King made sure to stress each word.

If this situation wasn't so serious, Jay would laugh. After all, he's the one who started the fight by using his newfound powers to stop the Wonder Soldier from grabbing him.

If anything, the transmigrator should be the one saying he fought back in self defense.

"Listen, it's not what it looks like!" Eugene groaned as he ran his hands through his hair. "I swear it's for self defense! Your son... He tried to trip me!"

"That's what kids do." The Red King talked as if he knew all about parenting, like he didn't just acquire the baby months ago. "The little guy was playing a trick, and he's probably scared shi— very scared of a stranger in his yard."

Jay appreciated the fact the teenage boy tried not to say the word "shitless" when he's holding his son.

"You let your child out of the house unsupervised!" Eugene hands were lifted up in surrender, but his voice remained firm on arguing. "What kind of parents are you?"

JJ let out a dramatic gasp.

"I'm sure you understand, Mr. Self Defense from a baby, that our son isn't ordinary." The Red King's tone didn't die down, instead, he's in debate mode. "He sometimes sneaks out, but he's smart enough to not leave the yard. But you... You came into our territory, caged our baby, and think we'll just let you leave and tell those ass— people at the USC."

At the point, the Wonder Soldier was visibly frustrated. He ran his hands through his blond hair once more, and his red eyes were dilating slightly.

"Jay, and Jay..." Eugene addressed both of the teen parents, taking a deep breath in between his speech. "I'm sorry. I apologize for intruding your home. I won't say anything to the USC. Our agreement still stands, so I'll just leave. We won't have to see each other again. But... But I wanna see my nephew. I wanna be part of your life if you allow me to."

JJ bit down on her lower lip, chewing on it as she considered his option. Meanwhile, Jay was focused on getting his heartbeat back to a steady rhythm. Adrenaline was still in his veins, and he was breathing too hard.

The System should've warned him about the side effects of using his powers, but no...

Shit, did the original Kaon had to go through the Wonder Soldier arc? How did he even survive?

[ USER JAY'S QUESTION IS VALID. ]

Oh, here comes the System when Jay didn't ask for it.

[ Eugene Romanov awakened Kaon's superpower when he first visited Jay Pleng and Jay Pleng on this property. Jay Pleng killed Eugene Romanov shortly after they found Kaon fighting Eugene Romanov. ]

Which Jay Pleng is the killer?

The System stayed silent, so the transmigrator sighed.

His parents were still yapping at the Wonder Soldier in their yard, so it's safe for Jay to continue yelling at the system.

Does Eugene really have to die? Jay had seen enough gore to last him a lifetime, and he's just one year old.

[ USER JAY, SOME DEATHS ARE NECESSARY —]

Oh, fuck the system.

[ HOWEVER, EUGENE ROMANOV'S LIFE WILL NOT AFFECT THE MAIN PLOT. ]

Huh, so it doesn't matter whether he lives or dies?

[ YES, USER JAY. ]

With that new found information, the baby patted his male caretaker's chest. "Dada..."

"Yeah, little guy?" The Red King's voice softened, a full flip from how he talked to his brother.

Jay then patted his tummy to get his point across. "Hungy."

He also caught the attention of his female caretaker, who smiled at him in response.

"Alrighty, how about we get some snacks?" The Red King's light-hearted tone didn't make the tension between all of them go away, but at least it's something. "Animal crackers, yeah?"

"Yeah!" Jay's little laugh never fail to attract smiles. "Lyon! Yeeraff! Bears! Bears!"

"Okay, I'll get you some bears." The teenage boy nodded, and all the joy evaporated from his face when he looked at his brother again. "How about you come inside and join us for snacks?"

"If you really wanna be part of our lives that much, then act like you do." JJ slowly lowered her blades, but her voice didn't get any friendlier. "If you hurt one hair on his head, you're dead, Eugene."

JJ's glare didn't drop as she backed into the kitchen. Even when she's putting the knives away, she's still keeping her eyes on the Wonder Soldier.

Eugene followed them into the kitchen like a lost puppy, probably considering and regretting his choice to stay.

Jay peeked at him from over the Red King's shoulder until his male caretaker placed him on the kitchen counter, right next to the knife block that held all 6 blades.

Well, isn't that doing wonders for the teenagers' parenting impressions.

Luckily, Jay is too tired to do anything, so he waited patiently for his parents to bring out some food. JJ was getting him juice while the Red King was getting the animal crackers from a cabinet above him.

Violet eyes moved to the blond man standing at the back door. He's already inside with the door closed shut behind him, but he looked so lost. His red eyes were also staring at the child.

At least Eugene is safe for now. The System did say whether he lives or dies won't matter, and Jay doesn't want his parents to kill more people in front of him.

Sure, they're literally villains of the original novel, but...

No one was truly born evil. There's only bad circumstances that shape people into being evil whether it's how they were raised or the trauma that they experience in life.

A spoiled brat would think that they deserve the world, so they do what they can to please their greed while a person who was dealt bad cards in life would want to see the world burn.

The original Kaon feel somewhere in between that two. Exposure to violence so often at such a young age would make him grow up thinking that it's normal to rip people apart. His mistreatment from the USC would give him reasons to do horrific things.
