48: Night Visitor I

The Wonder Soldier left the cabin with shaking hands and a red face. Jay could feel his anger and sadness, but he thought that it's best for Eugene to leave and never look back.

Also, Jay hoped that the blond man won't tell the USC about his brother's home. The two teenagers no longer had nothing to lose. They have a house with electricity and water, a toddler to care for, and each other.

Judging by the little information that Jay got from their interaction, Eugene had met his brother and JJ after they left their respective families, which led to the Wonder Soldier forming an "agreement" with the Red King. That "agreement" could be something along the lines of Eugene not ratting them out to the USC and the Red King not attacking the last Wonder Soldier.

The day was coming to an end, so the baby was given a shower before he's tucked into bed. Like usual, the toddler get to pick his bedtime story.

He pointed at the chemistry textbook that JJ brought back home one day. These books put Jay to sleep faster than any children's book because children's books give him more insight into the world building, which would only made him more curious than sleepy. Tonight, he needs a goodnight's sleep after all that crap.

And he hasn't even bothered the System about his newfound powers yet.

With his favorite blanket on him, Jay drifted off to sleep while JJ's voice droned on. After placing a kiss on the baby's forehead, his female caregiver turned off the light and joined her partner on the bed.

_

Jay woke up in the middle of the night.

Why?

Because of the fucking System, that's why.

In front of his sleepy face, a blue interface screen was shining down on him.

[ USER JAY MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS ACTIONS CONCERNING THE LAST WONDER SOLDIER EUGENE ROMANOV. ]

What actions?

All the transmigrator ever did was try not to get the man killed by distracting his parents. The System did say that whether Eugene lives or dies doesn't matter since he won't affect the main plot...

[ EUGENE ROMANOV IS IN THE KITCHEN. ]

Jay's violet eyes slowly widened at the interface screen.

Eugene is what?!?

With a groan leaving his lips, the transmigrator activated the memory function. As soon as his body disappeared, he made his way to through the door, not even bothering to turn on the lights. Opening up the trap door isn't hard when he's in the memory function, and when he got out of the basement, he left the memory function so that he could see whether or not the last Wonder Soldier is actually in his kitchen.

The baby popped back into existence. Rubbing his eyes, Jay tried to see better in the darkness.

Oh, shit, there he is.

A pair of deep red eyes were staring back at him. The vibe was exactly the same as the first time they met mere hours ago.

Why can't Eugene just leave them alone?

"Pssst... KJ..." The last Wonder Soldier finally found his voice.

He better be grateful that Jay didn't scream for his parents.

"Are you awake? Yeah?" The blond man took careful steps towards the child. "Where did you even come from?"

The transmigrator stood in the exact same place that the memory function left him in. His mind was running through so many different scenarios.

What if Eugene kidnaps him and take him away from his parents? That would have a very huge impact on the plot, and Jay doesn't know what's the punishment for accidentally diverging this much storyline.

The blond man was only a few feet away, making the transmigrator more and more nervous.

Knowing that he can't win any fights because he's still a baby, Jay decided to play offense.

"Aare yoo stooped?" His baby babble was surprisingly forming actually words.

Well, he's been practicing speaking for over a month now, but he didn't expect to do this good with words he's never spoken before.

The Wonder Soldier stopped in his tracks, and his lips hung open for a bit. Then, he gathered his composure.

"KJ..." Eugene whispered as he crouched down to look at his nephew face to face. "Don't tell your mom and dad about this, okay?"

"No." The baby crossed his arms, and he frowned his eyebrows as much as he could at the blond man. "Whey are yoo ere? Are yoo stoopid?"

Silence fell on them for a very long moment; Eugene was bitting his lower lip in search of an answer. A breath of cold air grazed Jay's cheek, so his violet eyes moved from the man to the back door.

The back door wasn't closed all the way.

Good fucking god. Eugene woke him up in the middle of the night, and he didn't even close the back door properly.

"Who taught you that word?" The Wonder Soldier changed the topic, but Jay was having none of it.

"Are yoo stoopid?" He repeated, and he frowned a little bit more to look intimating. "Mom an dad don't want yoo ere. Go away."

"Oh... Do you want candies?" Eugene tried to smile, but it was more creepy than anything in the dim light. "Just tell me where your parents are, okay?"

Jay's eyebrow twitched a little, as if he's an annoyed old man instead of a toddler.

What the fuck does Eugene wants?

"No candy from strangers." The toddler crossed his arms as he looked up at the blond man. "Mom an dad sleeping."

"Then what are you doing out here?" The Wonder Soldier asked back.

Jay doesn't what Eugene thinks he could achieve from talking to a toddler, but here they are.

"Yoo woke me up!" The toddler lifted his arms in the air to show his agitation.

It's clearly not working because the man looked at him like he's the most adorable thing he's ever seen.

"Yoo didn't eveeen close de back door." Jay's hand pointed at the door mentioned, which was still opened wide and letting in cold air. "An yooo make so much noise I can't sleep!"

He lied about that part. It was the System who woke him up to deal with this abomination. Consequences of his actions, they say.

However, he's allowed to do shits like scolding the Wonder Soldier because what is Eugene's going to do? Tell his parents?

His parents would rather believe that their baby is just smart instead of listening to an estranged brother talking about their baby speaking full sentences in the middle of the night.

"Do your parents know you're too smart?" The blond man's calm voice held a hint of amusement. "You're one year old, little ones don't talk like this."

"Heroes don't break into people's homes, but ere yoo are." Jay put his hands on his hips and stared at the man.

Violet eyes met red ones in the dim light, and he could tell the Wonder Soldier became a bit upset by what he said.

"Come back in da moorning." Jay didn't know why he said that, but his mind supplied him with what happened before and during dinner. Eugene Romanov wanted to be a part of their lives, so the transmigrator thought it would be be best to start there. "Seven Aa. M. Foollow me. Don't bee late."

"What kind of deal is that, KJ?" Eugene frowned a little.

"If yooo wanna be with us." The toddler held on to his point. "Theen come with us to do things."

The frown deepened, but Jay thought he had said enough. So, he dragged himself to the backdoor, not caring if the man is following behind him.

"Get out." Jay pointed at the door, which enticed a chuckle from the man following him.

"I can see it now." A grin formed on the Wonder Soldier's face, but he complied as he took his sweet sweet time walking out the back door. "You're just like your mother."

The transmigrator didn't want to think about what that statement meant. Did Eugene know about Kaon's real mother? Or he just was just comparing the baby to his female caretaker?
