To the Letter of the Law

"Explain to Tobin that you want to bring me on as a mentor. Don't tell him it's because he needs the help, of course. Tell him it's for you. So that I may guide you in your duties as queen."

"You would guide me on how to be a good queen?" Celia parroted blankly. The woman really thinks she's some kind of example for me to emulate?

Has she lost her fucking mind or have I?

"Yes. And in such a role, I'll be able to advise you both and help keep my son on an even keel, without him even realising." Maura ailed, looking very pleased with herself. "Hopefully I can steer him towards some more suitable company. His close friends are hopeless souls. The only other young man whose opinion he places any value on is Viscount Nadrim's son. And it won't do for bastard stock to be meddling in the kingdom's affairs."

"I see. So what you're after is a kingdom with two queens…" Celia murmured. She could see in her mind exactly how that arrangement would play out.
