The man looked at her with deep-set eyes and said, "Haven't you been calling me brother-in-law?"
"Yes..." His ambiguous answer made Xia An'an feel even more that something was off.
"My marriage arrangement with Wanwan was decided by our parents. In fact, when I left, you weren't even around," Xi Muchen said, his tone teasing, "Otherwise, you might not have ended up calling me brother-in-law, right?"
A look of shock appeared on Xia An'an's face. This time Xi Muchen's friendly gesture was obvious; it certainly wasn't just her imagination. She struggled to suppress the joy rising in her heart.
She laughed bashfully, "Brother-in-law, stop joking around."
"It's not a joke. But all that is in the past. Anyway, I understand how you feel tonight. Actually, I'm worried too," Xi Muchen spoke up, "If you really feel unhappy, you can talk to me anytime."
With that, he said goodnight and turned to go back to his room.
