Mi Shen's lips curved into a bright, charming smile as she playfully climbed onto Leng Ying's back, stretching out her tender white arms to affectionately hook around his neck.
"All set, Brother Leng Ying."
Leng Ying then stood up, carrying her on his back as he walked outside.
"Brother Leng Ying, how did you find this place?" Mi Shen asked.
"In Tongcheng, it's not difficult for the fourth young master to find someone," Leng Ying replied succinctly.
"Hmm," Mi Shen pondered, "Did Li Fengchang come?"
"Hmm."
"Did Li Fengchang do it on purpose? He could have found me, but he had to wait until now? Twenty-four hours... he really doesn't care about me," Mi Shen grumbled softly.
Leng Ying sighed, "The fourth young master had sent people here early on, keeping an eye on the situation the entire time. He said that he had to be the one to come over to rescue you."
"Then why didn't he come earlier?"
"Today's meeting was particularly important... The fourth young master came right after it ended," Leng Ying explained.
Mi Shen felt disappointed deep down: "Just as I thought, work is always his top priority..."
A Supervisor stood in front of a black car, slightly bending over, speaking to someone inside the vehicle.
After the Supervisor finished speaking, he stood up, got into the car behind, and sped off. Meanwhile, the rear window of the black car slowly rose, obscuring the indifferent and noble profile of the man inside.
Without giving it much thought, Mi Shen pointed to another car and said to Leng Ying, "I'll take that car."
But Leng Ying merely paused for a moment before striding over to this car. He opened the rear door, placed her gently inside, and closed it quietly.
Mi Shen fumed at Leng Ying, but he just lowered his eyes, silently closed the door, got into the driver's seat in front, and slowly started the car.
Sitting beside Mi Shen in the back seat was another person, a man with delicate features. He was both someone Mi Shen respected and feared, her Fengchang, the fourth young master of the Li Family, Li Fengchang!
Normally, Mi Shen feared him, but right now, filled with pent-up anger, she pretended he was invisible from the moment she entered the car. She turned her head and gazed out of the window, not once looking back.
Eventually, unable to stand the oppressive silence, someone spoke first, breaking the tension, "I was late."
"You were, of course, late. You could have been even later; then, I might have been killed by those two people, and you could have come... to collect my body," Mi Shen muttered under her breath, her words tumbling out rapidly, sounding like a constant grumble that could easily be overlooked. But Li Fengchang heard every single word, loud and clear.
He was never one to explain himself, yet, in front of Mi Shen, he was exceptionally patient. Sometimes, he was even willing to patiently explain things to her, like now.
So, he reached out and took her small hand, "Today's meeting was very important."
Mi Shen, sulking, jerked her hand back and mumbled, "Yes, yes, work is important, nothing else matters. You should have just gone back to work; why bother with me?"
Li Fengchang's brow furrowed slightly, and he called out with a deep voice, "Shenshen!"
Mi Shen turned her head away stubbornly, as though she wished she could press her entire face against the car window glass.
Out of sight, out of mind!
If he didn't care about her, then she didn't want to deal with him either! Who was afraid of whom?
