Dance Of Demons

I felt a bullet graze my skin. It was something I expected since I am not as fast as Layla, who cuts down anyone that stands in her way.

This is a battlefield where I have no shield. I might have a teammate, but it's every man for himself now. Layla doesn't seem to care if I get killed.

We are like a team that would kill each other at one's blind spot—a duet of demons, if I must say.

Whoosh–!

My ears picked up the intense wind pressure coming at me from behind, and instinctively, I side-stepped, letting the prison guard's blade slice through the air.

Flump–!

I lightly kicked the female guard in the back, sending her crashing to the first floor. As you know, the higher you are, the more bloody your death will be if you fall.

Jokes aside, I have to fight using only my body this time. Abilities are like an added pair of hands that are difficult to control. That's why I mostly rely on my physical skills in combat.

However, lately, I have been depending on my abilities. My current situation serves as a lesson, reminding me that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

If I want to escape this hell, then my body must climb up to paradise. A new future and world await in front of me, which makes it foolish for me to turn back now.

Moreover, I need to become stronger if I want to survive in this world. From what I heard from Hein, the Galactic Prison guards are weaker than the Noble Knights and Military Officers.

However, I shouldn't underestimate them, as that would give them a chance to oppress me in the future. If I want to be free, then my mind should not be afraid of people.

"I am the future, and my future looks bright," I declared in my heart.

With determination glowing in my eyes, I focused my mind on my ears to catch everything happening near me, not across the entire floor.

The movements of their muscles, the stretching of their battle suits, and the pumping of their blood were all audible to me.

My eyes couldn't see them, but I could perfectly picture them thanks to my ears.

Instinctively, my mind cleared like an ocean; all the disturbing thoughts washed away like waves. I could say I was in a state of nothingness.

Swish–!

Stepping to the side, I narrowly dodged the blade that aimed to slice me in half horizontally. Swiftly reacting, my hands wrapped around the attacker's neck and immediately twisted.

Crack–!

The small sound of his esophagus breaking was the signal that the man had kicked the bucket.

It was a cruel death to inflict on someone, but it was necessary to ensure they would never come after me again. The battle suits they wear act as an extra heart if they are stabbed. Layla's attempt had already confirmed that for me.

Taking the bastard sword from the prison guard, I positioned myself for battle, patiently waiting for the group of three approaching me.

There is an old saying that goes, "'If' is the thoughts of a fool."

However, now I couldn't help but think, ''If' I had learned swordsmanship, the situation before me would be easier.'

The man in the middle, who seemed to be the leader, had a muscular body, and the grip of just two fingers from him would be comparable to my whole fist. Not only that, but he was one hell of a tall half-human, almost reaching four meters.

Stinky sweat dripped from his thick muscles as he pulled the string of his bow before releasing an arrow with a swoosh.

I narrowly evaded the attack by stepping to the side, but it left a trail of blood on my cheek, sending a cold shiver down my spine.

However, I didn't have time to dwell on that, as one of the men next to the musclehead transformed his arm into a rope that tore through the air, rushing toward me.

Swish–!

I flipped my body in the air to dodge the attack, but I had set fire to my own eyes as the other of the three thrust his spear at me.

Thud–!

I let myself crash to the ground, as any movement would have resulted in a fatal injury. Standing up with a smirk, I felt a slight twitch of pain in my shoulders.

Whoosh–!

Feeling another arrow coming straight at my heart, I swung the weapon in my hand, intercepting the attack with a loud clang that sent sparks flying, illuminating the second floor for a moment.

I didn't waste a second and charged at the rope man, who had extended himself to attack my hand. Instead of dodging, I let him whip my hand.

Wapa–!

The rope bruised my left palm, but the prison guard unexpectedly became whole again, and my sword found its way to his thick neck, which was almost the size of my finger.

Posh–!

The tip of the blade only pierced slightly, but a river of blood gushed everywhere, some of it splattering on my face. The prison guard tried to grip his neck as if he were an eagle, but his actions only made the back of his head touch his back.

Thud...

The prison guard was no more, but his teammates didn't seem to mind, as the spear-man thrust his weapon directly at my head. Seizing a good opportunity, I jumped into the air and used the base of the spear as my footing.

Wham–!

My knee smashed into his ugly face, easily breaking it and causing blood to form a web over his mouth. However, he soon became my shield against the arrow rushing at me.

Thack–!

His back was pierced, but all he could do was groan as the battle suit protected him.

Trying to take advantage of the situation, he attempted to move his spear, but my teeth connected with his neck.
