chapter 15

Emily stepped out of the car, leo trusted bodyguard was, watching her with a discerning eye. "Wait here with the driver," she instructed, her voice firm. The car's engine hummed softly, parked a few blocks away from her aunt's house.

As Emily walked into the house, she was met with an unsettling atmosphere. Her aunt's raised voice pierced the air, ranting to her husband, who sat quietly, reading the newspaper. His calm demeanor was a stark contrast to his wife's fury. Emily's instincts told her something was off.

"Hello, I'm home," Emily announced, attempting to sound cheerful despite the tension.

Her words were cut short by a harsh slap, sending her head jerking to the side. Her aunt's eyes blazed with anger, hand raised for another strike.

"Don't go too far, Aunt," Emily warned, her voice steady.

Enraged, her aunt pushed Emily to the ground. "Lock the main door!" she shrieked at her husband. "Let me teach this filthy wench a lesson!"

Emily's head spun as her aunt's slaps rained down. She struggled to defend herself, but her aunt's fury seemed boundless.

In a flash, Emily sprang to her feet pushed her aunt and darted upstairs. She knew what she had to do. Her aunt's venomous words echoed behind her: "If not for you taking care of me, I'd show you the true meaning of a wench!"

Emily's heart pounded as she snatched the essential documents from her room. She had to escape, and fast. Her aunt's rage was escalating, and Emily knew she couldn't trust her.

With the documents clutched tightly, Emily turned to face the stairs, her mind racing. How could she get past her aunt's wrath? The sound of footsteps closing in made her heart sink.

And then, everything went black.
