chapter 29 the ball

The grand ballroom shimmered like a celestial wonder, its crystal chandeliers refracting rainbow hues across the polished marble floor. The air vibrated with anticipation as guests gathered to celebrate the birthday of Leo's grandfather, the venerable King Henry.

Emily, resplendent in a silk gown of sapphire hue, glided down the staircase, her raven tresses cascading like a waterfall of night. The gown's delicate embroidery seemed to dance across her skin, accentuating her porcelain complexion and radiant smile. Her eyes sparkled like diamonds, captivating the attention of every male in the room.

Leo's eyes locked onto Emily, his gaze burning with adoration. He strode towards her, his tailored tuxedo accentuating his chiseled physique.

"Emily, you're breathtaking," Leo whispered, offering his hand.

As they danced, other male princes, invited for the birthday celebration, couldn't help but ogle Emily's beauty. Prince Julian's eyes lingered on her décolletage, while Prince Alexander's gaze traced the curves of her waist. Leo's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched.

With possessive tenderness, Leo drew Emily into his embrace, making her gasp and giggle. The movement sent shivers down her spine.

"You're jealous," Emily teased, her eyes sparkling. "The shades of your eyes are changing. Aww, Leo, you're so cute."

Leo's smile ignited a flutter in Emily's tummy, making her eyes twinkle and shine brighter with joy.

As the music swelled, Leo halted their dance, his eyes locking onto Emily's.

"Emily, from the moment I met you, I knew you were the one," Leo declared, his voice trembling. "Will you be my queen?"

A delicate box opened, revealing a diamond ring that shimmered like a star.

Tears of joy filled Emily's eyes. "Yes, Leo!"

The ballroom erupted in applause, but Victor's voice cut through the celebration.

"Today, we celebrate not only my grandfather's birthday but also my brother's engagement," Victor said, his smile forced, malice and hatred lurking beneath. "May their union bring prosperity to our kingdom."

King Henry's eyes narrowed, sensing Victor's insincerity.

Leo's grip on Emily's hand tightened, his eyes flashing with warning.

As the night wore on, Emily and Leo's love shone brighter than any star, but the shadows of Victor's deceit threatened to extinguish its light.

Sophia, Emily's rival, watched from the sidelines, her eyes blazing with resentment. She whispered to her accomplice, Mary.

"This isn't over," Sophia hissed. "We'll ensure their happiness is short-lived."

Meanwhile, Ryker, the mysterious observer, appeared at the ball, his emerald eyes fixed on Emily.

"The prophecy is unfolding," Ryker muttered to himself. "But Emily's destiny remains unclear."

As the evening progressed, guests mingled and congratulated the newly engaged couple. Prince Julian approached Emily, his smile charming.

"Congratulations, Emily. You've captured Leo's heart," Prince Julian said. "I hope you'll consider visiting my kingdom soon."

Emily's smile was polite. "Thank you, Prince Julian. That's very kind of you."

Leo's eyes narrowed, his possessiveness returning.

"I think Emily will be busy with royal duties," Leo said, his tone firm.

Prince Julian chuckled. "Of course. I understand."

As the night drew to a close, Emily and Leo shared a tender kiss under the starry sky.

Their love shone bright, but the darkness closing in around them threatened to extinguish its light.
