Chapter XXV: Why Settle for One When You Can Have More?  

While I was trying to console Marcus, Cesare made a sudden and unexpected visit. I say "sudden" because he barged in with such force that he nearly broke the door.

"Antonio, we're not done talking!" he said, visibly irritated.

"Cesare, you know... I think it's better if we end our discussion here. It was nice while it lasted, but you're the cardinal of Rome, and I'm just a canon in a remote diocese. I don't think we're suited for each other... Find yourself another cardinal to satiate your desires, okay?"

"What are you implying, Antonio? All the cardinals are over 50 and hideous as hell. You're the only one who—"

"I don't care... Besides, you must have done it before, right? Go back to your old life."

"I can't... Just because of you... You're a bastard who changed my life in a few days with your kindness. Now it seems you've turned into a demon, haven't you?"
