Chapter LV: The Last Celebration Before Departure

 

Well, it seems that the last word belonged to Voivode Stephen of Moldavia, one of the main state leaders of the 15th century, who would leave this world in twelve years, in 1504.

"Your Excellency, for more than 400 years, the Universal Church has been fragmented. I believe you are aware of the sad event in 1054 when the Roman Church and the Eastern Church split. Frankly, as a servant of the Eastern Church, I can only hope that this significant event in our history and that of the Church will bring about the unity we all need.

If you solemnly promise to work towards restoring peace between the Churches, I will be more than happy to support you in all your endeavors, including actions beneficial to the entire Church. Therefore, I want to remind you of the greatest commandment left by the Lord to His disciples... If the Church is divided, how can the state remain united?
