Chapter nine

One day when Ereyei was in his office, as principal of Ereama secondary School, terrible heat and sweat came upon him. It was so terrible that at a time, he ran out of the office. After some time, helplessly he went back again. Suddenly he became very dizzy and fell on the ground, making an unpleasant noise. The office clerk Agbeyei and Teachers gathered. Ereyei was on the ground, jerking, snorting and snoring and frothing at the mouth like an over flowing bottle of palm wine. It was a stroke attack. He could not move at all. Hefty teachers gathered around him and carried him away.

When they got home, Ebiotu and Luisa were surprised. They were speechless. However Luisa had the understanding that it might be because of the unfulfilled covenant that her husband was suffering from the stroke attack. Luisa went to her father and told him the matter. The father got so pent up and moved swiftly to Ereyei's place. It was pathetic. Life was going away. He shook his head, bit his finger and left in a very cold spirit. Ebiotu and Luisa, wept and

wept, for a candle that swiftly melted away. It was terrible. Ebiotu put to bed a baby girl. While Luisa repented and was delivered and got married again.
