Elias, an outgoing and friendly guy, is usually surrounded with tons of friends thanks to his joyful and gentle aura. On the other hand, Han, a lonely guy, never gets approached by anyone. Even if he tries to act nice towards them, he tends to receive distraught stares in return and immediately gets pushed away.
Han thought that maybe, his existence was just there and was never meant to experience any significant change whatsoever.
Well, that's what he used to think.
On a tropical summer day at school, Han
Sits down on a bench, located on the school rooftop. He let the breezy wind brush through his pitch black hair, making him feel relieved and relaxed.
His eyes remained droopy due to his lack of sleep, and his eyeglasses almost falling off from the bridge of his nose. He decided to get some shut eye after exhausting himself with dozens of schoolwork.
When suddenly, a clacking sound can be heard from the entrance door, Han was startled and turned to look at the source of the noise. Turns out, it was Elias.
You can quickly identify that the person is Elias just by looking at his paper white hair, along with his green eyes that resembles much of the grasses beautifying a forest in the season of spring. What makes him truly unique is his beauty mark that's below his right eyelid.
Han's eyes widened for a moment, but then quickly switched to his stoic face, so as to not let his unusual expression be discovered.
Elias noticed the other party sitting down on the bench, and gave him a bright smile. "Oh hi there! You're Han right? Mind if I sit next to you?" Elias asked enthusiastically.
Han thought about his question for a few seconds, then responded "Of course, you can sit here." After Elias heard his answer, he felt elated, his face beaming with pure joy.
"Thanks, Dont mind if I do! My name is Elias! Nice to meet you. This place sure is the perfect spot to take a breather! such a hidden gem, don't you think?"
Han stared at Elias's joyous face for a few moments, then turned to look at the ground and answered "Mn, agreed. I like this place alot, it lets me take a quick break from all the things going on here and there."
Elias smiled at Han then said "Exactly! I just hope that this place won't get too crowded by then.. oh by the way, why are you here all by yourself? Dont you have friends waiting for you?"
Han was startled by the sudden questions he was given. He paused to think if he should just be honest and say the truth or stay silent. Several seconds had passed, and he finally replied,
"Everyone thinks of me as a meaningless fly. I try to help them and leave a nice impression, but they just dont see me that way.. I always get pushed around here and there, which is why people rarely go up to me. However, I'm already accustomed to it, so it's no problem."
He tried to conceal his saddened tone, and did his best to stay composed and calm as much as possible. However, Elias saw right through him. Han's quivering lips, transparent tears starting to swell in his eyes, and especially his furrowed eyebrows. It's already obvious on how hard he's trying to hide it. Elias attempted to cheer his spirits up and comfort him as much as he can.
"People tend to misunderstand others based on their appearance. Though they may look rude, but in reality, they are completely nice. And that's what people tend to miss when analyzing a particular person. So dont blame yourself for it alright? Oh! How about this, maybe you can hang out with me? That way, you won't feel so dull and lonely! How about it? Yes or no?" Elias suggested, his emerald eyes sparkling with excitement, waiting for the other party to say yes.
Han felt suprised at Elias's sudden suggestion, but decided to accept his offer. "Alright, I don't mind. I hope that I wont be too much of a burden."
Upon hearing Han's response, Elias felt extremely happy and overjoyed
"Yipiee! Dont worry, you won't be a burden at all! One hundred percent not a burden! I hope we'll become great friends!! Aiya, the school bell is ringing now.. I gotta go, see you next time Han!"
After exchanging their short goodbyes, Elias hurriedly left the rooftop, leaving Han alone with his own thoughts to accompany him.
For the very first time, Han felt like he was finally acknowledged by someone and never looked down at him like he's some sort of weirdo. As he continued to think back to their conversation from earlier, his lips began to curve into a sincere, joyful smile without even realizing it.
