Chapter 26

I felt a lump in my throat as I looked at the unknown number on my ringing phone. Curiosity got the better of me, and I mustered the courage to answer.

"Hello?" I said.

"It's Zaiden," came the familiar voice on the other end.

"Professor, why did you call me?" I asked.

"Is Zairon there?" he asked sternly. I swallowed hard, unable to respond immediately.

"You better leave him alone," he continued, his tone filled with warning.

"P-professor?" I stammered.

"Laurenestine, leave him alone, and please, don't inform him about your pregnancy," he said.

"Why, sir?" I managed to ask even though I'm so curious.

"Just follow what I say, Laurenestine. This is for your own good. For your family and your child."

"If that's the case, are you the one I talked to at the cafe?" I just thought she would say no because I was confident it wasn't her but I was troubled by what I heard from Zairon and what the Professor is saying now.
