Their voices gradually faded away as they moved farther, and I cautiously opened the bathroom door. My heart raced in my chest as I peered down the hallway, ensuring that they had indeed left. Taking a deep breath, I stepped out and made my way back to the room, attempting to calm my racing thoughts.

My grandparents were completely engrossed in cooing over the babies, seemingly oblivious to my brief absence. I approached them, mustering a smile that didn't quite reach my eyes, still mulling over their earlier conversation. Zairon, just like the others, claimed to love me but seemed to be searching for someone else already. It was difficult for me to believe him anymore.
