Chapter 17

She had just squinted for a moment when her phone rang and a text message entered.

She picked it up sympathetically and saw that it was from an unfamiliar number with a somewhat strange content, consisting only of four words: "Strike a stone with an egg."

Summer Mu looked a bit stunned and typed, "Who are you?"

After a while, the person replied, "It's me."

Summer Mu held her phone and a strange intuition surged in her heart. Such a cold and aloof tone only reminded her of someone... and on the night of the car accident, she had left her address and phone number for the police. Since Beck can find her workplace, it's not surprising to have her phone number.

She replied, "I don't understand what you're saying."

Beck only replied with one word: "Pretend."

Summer Mu vaguely felt what he was talking about. But looking at the text message he sent, for some reason, there was an impulse to laugh. So she replied, "How about you bite me?"

After waiting for a while, Summer Mu stuffed her phone back into her pants pocket and continued sleeping by the pile of goods.

——

Summer Mu would see Meng again in two days.

This morning was clear and foggy, cool and pleasant. As soon as Summer Mu ran to the edge of the sports field, she saw Meng still standing next to the exercise equipment that day, practicing arm strength.

Summer Mu ran over and said, "Mr. Meng, morning."

Meng paused and turned to see her. The busyness of the past few days seemed to leave no signs of exhaustion on his face. Under his sword eyebrows, a smile appeared in his eyes: "Good morning, Summer Mu."

The sunlight slowly covered the entire sports field, and the sky became completely bright.

The two of them quickly completed their ten laps. Meng led her and sat down to rest in the same position as last time.

Summer Mu took out a towel to wipe her sweat, and a smile remained on her lips. She was no longer so afraid of Meng in her heart. Compared to before, there was even more admiration. She didn't know what to talk to him about, just sat side by side with him, looking calmly ahead.

Meng calmly looked at her beautiful profile and asked with a smile, "Why haven't you come for a run these days?"

"Oh, these past few days have been too busy. "Summer Mu replied.

This was a very powerful excuse. Meng nodded, but there was still a slight smile in his eyes, and he didn't know if he believed it or not.

"This big promotion was done under your reminder. "he said again." I will remember your contributions. However, you have just joined the marketing department and were promoted above your level. Being too sharp and revealing is not good for you, so I did not publicly commend you."

Summer Mu was truly moved by these words and said, "Mr. Meng, thank you. I don't really care if there are any commendations, as long as I can learn something in the marketing department."

Unexpectedly, Meng changed his tone and said, "I can't commend you, but I can still treat you to a meal."

Summer Mu was taken aback and looked up at him. He took out a cigarette and lit one, the smile in his eyes still light and calm, which she couldn't see through.

"No need, no need, Mr. Meng, you don't have to treat me to a meal. My contribution... isn't that great."she said quickly.

Meng was amused by her again, took a puff of his cigarette, and said, "Not even breakfast?"

——

Ten minutes later.

The two of them were sitting at a breakfast stall by the river, and Meng drove her over.

At this moment, the sun had completely emerged from the clouds, shining on the rippling surface of the river, and a gentle breeze was blowing towards them. The vendor set up several wooden tables and placed a stack of plastic chairs on the shore. Meng was not particular about it either, sat opposite Summer Mu.

She ordered a bowl of noodles, and it was beef noodles, saying that she had already "slaughtered" the boss severely. Meng just smiled warmly and ordered a bowl of vegetarian powder for himself.

He ate quickly, and soon the bowl was at its bottom. He put down his chopsticks and drank hot water, looking at her. Summer Mu had only eaten half of it, smiled at him, lowered his head and continued eating. The sunshine was very warm. And he lit another cigarette, and the smell of tobacco slowly lingered around them, not unpleasant.

"Summer Mu ."he suddenly spoke, his voice slow and gentle," what dreams do you have?"

Summer Mu was slightly stunned, putting down her chopsticks and looking at him. He had a calm and warm expression on his face, indicating that he was seriously exploring the answer to this question.

Summer Mu remained silent for a moment before answering, "Mr. Meng, my dream may seem a bit uncertain. I want to retake the college entrance examination, get into a good university, and then go abroad."

Meng seemed somewhat surprised and said, "Going abroad? Why?"

Summer Mu replied, "I don't know, I just want to go out and have a look."

Meng quieted down for a while, picked up the teapot next to her, filled her cup with water, and said word by word, "As big as your heart is, you can go as far as you want. In my opinion, this is not something that matters to you. Do you understand, little girl?"

Summer Mu couldn't speak and let out a soft "hmm". Meng didn't say anything again. He looked at her with deep and quiet eyes. He held a cigarette in one hand and hung it under the table. The other hand was placed on the table, not far from her hand. She didn't know what he was thinking.

Although the two of them had been alone a few times, Summer Mu always regarded him as a leader and had some admiration for him. It was the first time he had gazed at me so quietly for a long time. Her cheeks suddenly turned hot, and her emotions were a bit messy, like wild grass, slowly emerging in her heart.

She lowered her head to avoid his gaze.

Then her hand was held by him.

Suddenly, Summer Mu was completely stunned, feeling his slightly cold hands being tightly wrapped by his broad and slightly calloused hands. Then she heard him say, " The money is on the table."

He held her and got up to leave. Summer Mu finally realized, his heart beating wildly like a drum. He wanted to pull his hand back, but he noticed and held it even tighter.

He looked at her sideways. Summer Mu stuttered a bit and said, "Meng... Mr. Meng, why are you holding my hand? Let go."

She still wanted to play dumb, but Meng just smiled, his eyes still deep and impenetrable.

"Little girl, don't be afraid. "he only said one sentence. Holding the hand, but obviously not intending to let go.

Summer Mu seemed to be walking in flames, every step tense and agonizing. She's in chaos, her whole body was in chaos. Let her completely disregard Meng's face now, pull her hand back and quarrel with him, she can't do it. She could only let him lead me step by step up the riverbank and towards the parking lot.

He always held her hand, with his rough and hard wheat colored joints, and held her soft hand in the palm of his hand. It only made Summer Mu tremble with fear.

Fortunately, the car stopped not far and finally arrived. Summer Mu felt relieved and quickly pulled his hand back as he reached for the car keys.

Meng smiled faintly and whispered, "Get in the car, Mr. Meng will take you back."

Summer Mu didn't look at him, his whole face was red, and he sat in the car. Along the way, neither of them spoke, and Summer Mu was in a daze. As soon as she got downstairs, she immediately opened the car door and ran away.
