A wise choice

"Forget it."

Zhao Ruobing looked at Mr. Chu and wanted to say more, but ultimately said nothing and turned to leave the room.

She could see that Mr. Chu genuinely wanted to thank her. During this period, both he and his family had expressed their gratitude, and she had noticed. In a normal situation, she wouldn't have minded. As Mr. Chu said, the media coverage, despite causing her some trouble, was more beneficial than not.

However, the problem was that she wasn't the one who had saved Mr. Chu. During this time, facing his gratitude, she often felt uneasy. The media coverage made her feel like she was taking credit for something she didn't do.

She believed those who knew the truth wouldn't say anything, and the mysterious expert who actually saved Mr. Chu might not even be aware of the news. That person hadn't visited the hospital or checked on the patient since the incident. She didn't know if he was still in Beijing. Even if he found out, she doubted he would say anything. But it wasn't about what others might think; it was about her own conscience.

As for Mr. Chu's suggestion to retract the news, she knew it was too late. The impact had already spread; retracting it now would only complicate matters further.

Watching Zhao Ruobing leave, Mr. Chu was puzzled.

Did he really do something wrong?

But he genuinely thought it was a good thing to publicize it. He wanted to express his gratitude and thought the publicity would help her career.

Is it possible that someone wouldn't want to be famous?

"Dr. Zhao..."

As Zhao Ruobing left Mr. Chu's room, her intern, Xiao Chen, approached cautiously, noticing her stern expression.

"What is it?" Zhao Ruobing asked, frowning.

"There are many reporters in the office wanting to interview you. What should I tell them?" Xiao Chen asked carefully.

"Tell them I'm not accepting any interviews!" Zhao Ruobing's face turned even colder.

"But... Dr. Zhao, the director just called. He said..." Xiao Chen glanced at Zhao Ruobing, hesitating.

"I don't care what he said. I'm not accepting any interviews. Don't you understand?" Zhao Ruobing's eyes flashed with anger.

Interview? What would she say to those reporters? Admit that she wasn't the one who saved the patient, but someone else did? That would ruin her reputation and the hospital's. If she lied and claimed credit, she'd have to fabricate details about the surgery and offer insincere thanks. She couldn't do that.

Though the situation was out of her control, she could still choose to refuse the interview.

"Yes, yes, I'll tell them right away!" Xiao Chen hurried off, not daring to say more.

Watching Xiao Chen leave hurriedly, Zhao Ruobing glanced towards the office, her eyes showing irritation, and turned back to the wards.

Returning to the office was out of the question; the reporters would swarm her. Instead, she decided to continue her rounds and check on the patients.

Just as she was about to enter a nearby ward, her phone vibrated violently. To avoid disturbing patients, her phone was always on vibrate.

Seeing the call, Zhao Ruobing frowned but decided to answer.

"This is outrageous!" The voice on the other end was filled with anger. "How could you perform surgery under those conditions? Do you realize the serious consequences and trouble you could bring upon yourself?"

"I don't know what the consequences could be. I only know that saving a patient is a doctor's duty," Zhao Ruobing replied coldly.

"Duty? Nonsense! You should know that being a doctor means understanding your limitations! This isn't duty; it's recklessness! A mature doctor knows what 'doing their best' means. Doctors aren't gods; they can't do everything! In that situation, you should have stayed calm and made a wise choice."

"I have to get back to work," Zhao Ruobing said, and hung up.

"Hey, what's your attitude! You..." The voice on the other end was cut off, leaving a middle-aged man looking both angry and helpless.

After hanging up, Zhao Ruobing's mind flashed to a slender yet resolute figure, and she recalled a determined voice saying, "As a doctor, if there's even a slight chance, you should fight for it and never give up."

Doing your best?

A wise choice?

Zhao Ruobing's lips curled into a mocking smile. She put away her phone and walked towards the ward.
