Chapter 18: Cruelty

A day passed by.

The girl couldn't get over what happened. She was still crying in her seat.

The boy was hugging her as the jeep calmly drove on the road.

A little while later, the girl finally said something, "Is uncle really gone?"

"…Yes."

"Why?"

"Because he's sick."

"…Can't we find a cure for him?"

"…"

"We can't?"

"…I… Don't know."

"…"

The girl laid down on his shoulder and silently sobbed.

"Are you going to leave me too?"

"…" The boy stared at her. Then he shook his head.

"No, don't worry."

"…."

"Uncle will come and find us someday."

"...Really?"

"Yeah, he promised you, didn't he?"

"…He did."

"So don't be sad. Let's wait for him."

"…Okay."

Another one.

"Goddamnit!! Quickly! Fuckin hell, there are civilians with us!"

"Code Red, fuck! Why did those fuckers appear here all of the sudden?"

"Reinforcements, request immediate reinforcements!! Location is…"

"Hit the gas!!'

"Their shooting at us"

The soldiers went into a frantic frenzy and the jeep drove faster. The soldiers went to the windows of the cars and started shooting.

Behind them were an army of men who also had weapons and cars, they drove on the other side of the road and started blasting their guns at them.

"Shit!"

"WHERE IS THAT DAMNED REINFORCEMENTS!?"

"OH SHIT! TWO BLUE-FALCON IS DOWN! I REPEAT, TWO BLUE-FALCON IS DOWN!!"

"DELTA-RED CRASHED!!"

"FUCK!! THEY HAVE AN RPG!!!"

The boy held the girl tightly in his arms, the girl shivered in his arms as she covered her ears with her hands.

"THERE! I SEE THE GATE, JUST A FEW MORE, JUST A FEW MORE- "

Boom.

The jeep flew in the air. It rolled. And rolled. And rolled.

A rocket launcher hit the car that both the boy and the girl were in.

The boy was bleeding on his head, and he couldn't feel his back.

He frantically looked around the jeep and didn't find the girl anywhere.

He got out of the jeep.

And he asked God, why?

The girl lied down on the road. She was coughing up blood.

Both of her legs were cut off, and a large thin metal bar stabbed through her stomach.

The boy stiffened in shock.

"NO!!!!" He ran towards her and held her up.

The girl looked at him, the muttered, "I-I can't breathe…"

The girl had tears in her eyes, "I-It hurts."

"No, no!"

"Are, we there, yet?"

"We're near, we're near!"

"R-really?"

Tears fell from his face.

"Yes! We're near, come on."

The boy dragged her, ever so closer to the gate.

"I…. feel cold…."

"We're here! Look! Its heaven- "

Just as the boy pointed at the city not so far away from them, a large missile crashed down in the middle of the city.

Then an explosion happened.

"What…?"

The boy stared in disbelief.

The girl saw all that happening, her eyes grew dimmer as blood continued to escape from her.

"…Its dark."

The boy shocked, he stared at the girl, then at the city.

"What is happening?"

"It's cold."

"Where are you?"

"I'm here!"

"Did you leave me behind?"

"No! I'm right here!"

"…Please don't leave me behind."

"I'm not going to leave you behind!!"

"I'm scared."

"Don't worry, I'm here!!"

"Please."

"Please, lord." The boy clasped his hand together, in between was the necklace that the priest had given him.

He prayed.

He prayed that this was all a dream.

He prayed that this was just a nightmare.

He prayed that everything was just an illusion.

"Hey…" The girl muttered, then she held his hand and gave him a smile, "Thank you…..."

The girl smiled with tears and blood mixing.

Then her eyes finally dimmed.

Another grain had fallen to the pit.

The boy stared at this; his mind went blank.

Behind him, a war was going on.

Why?

Why?

How cruel of the world. To take away his happiness the moment it blossomed.

The boy's face became cold and emotionless. Tears fell from his face.

The boy lost any more semblance of hope. Move forward. He got up, the started moving, aimlessly until he reached the city. Bodies found everywhere, blood dying the land. Death was everywhere. In the center of it all, the boy looked at the skies. Tears falling from his eyes, he yelled.
