Chapter 7

Scrolling through her cellphone, Michelle was alarmed by a sudden knock at the door.

"It's open!" She shouted.

Monah entered with Derrick following behind her.

"Hello." The young man greeted.

Michelle quickly sat upright on her bed with her mouth wide opened.

"Oh my, who are you gorgeous?" She asked.

Derrick was taken aback by the respond.

Monah introduced the two to each other.

"Wow, so is he like your boyfriend?" Michelle asked, being noisy.

The young man chuckled

"Well, I think any man would be fortunate to have Monah as a partner. She's smokin!" He said, trying to provoke Michelle.

Monah giggled.

"Stop that." She cried.

Derrick became stern in expression.

"But it's true." He said, grabbing Monah by the hand then kissing it.

Michelle raised an eyebrow. Disgust fell upon her face.

"Get another room guys, this one is occupied." She said.

Monah smiled, she pressed her lips hard trying not to laugh.

"Aren't you going to prepare some tea for me before I leave?" Derrick teased

"How do you like it?"

"The way you make it."

Michelle rolled her eyes in annoyance.

Monah went on to boil the water and while she was busy in the kitchen, Derrick looked around the room and began to read the poems pasted on the wall.

"Who wrote these?" The young man asked.

Michelle raised her eyes up with a frown.

"I did, why?" She asked angrily

Derrick nodded slowly.

"They're really good. You should publish a book. They will sell like hotcakes." He said.

Michele's face brightened.

"I know." She said. "So, you're single, right?"

Derrick chuckled, his deep voice rumbling all the way to the kitchen.

"Actually, I'm not," he said, his eyes locked on Monah's as she walked towards them with a cup of tea in one hand and a sugar bowl on another hand. "I'm available for her."

Michelle's face fell, her jealousy plain on her features.

"Oh," she said, her voice small. "Well, I guess I'll just have to find someone else to obsess over."

Monah rolled her eyes, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Why don't you just mind your own business, Michelle? You're dating Ted, remember?"

Michelle's face flashed with anger, but she knew her roommate was right. She got into her slippers and left the room, slamming the door shut, muttering under her breath.

Derrick chuckled again, his eyes never leaving Monah's.

"I think I just made a few enemies," he said, his voice teasing.

Monah smiled, her heart racing.

"Just ignore her," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "She's always like that."

Derrick nodded, his hand on the doorknob. "I think I can handle it," he said, his eyes never leaving hers. He locked the room. And placed the key into his pocket.

Monah was surprised.

"What are you doing, she's going to report me to the residence manager that I locked her out." She said.

Derrick grabbed the cup of tea and sugar bowl out of the young woman's hands then placed them gently on the table.

Monah's heart began to beat at a fast pace.

Derrick grabbed the young woman by the waist, pulling her close to him. He looked straight into his eyes.

"Do that thing you did in the library." He said.

"What thing?" The young woman asked as if clueless yet knowing exactly what was been spoken about.

"Bite your lips." Derrick demanded.

Monah bit her lips gently. The young man immediately pressed his lips against those of the young woman.

The tension in the room increased. There was an intense heat between the two of them.

Monah could feel something hardening below Derrick's belt.

She quickly pushed him away.

"Stop! We can't do this. Not like this. No." She begged.

Derrick nodded.

"You're right. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have. I guess I'll see you tomorrow."

Monah nodded.

The young man smiled. He unlocked the door then left.
