Chapter 11

It was yet another piano training session with Derrick and Mr Henderson. The piano tutorial was wearing a purple blazer laced with gold cloth on the collar as well as the pockets. His shoes were black and shiny. One could be able to see their reflection on them. That's how neat, Mr Henderson was. The music sent harmonious sounds throughout the entire room. Derrick seemed to enjoy himself. When it was time to take a break, the two men took sips of wine.

"You played rather wonderful today. I see you're happy." Said the piano tutor.

Derrick's face lit up.

"Why wouldn't i be happy. I saw the most amazing girl in the world today. I saw my Monalisa."

Mr Henderson chuckled.

"Your Monalisa? You must really love that young woman to compare to such an iconic artpiece."

"Well to me, she's worth more than that."

The tutor chuckled.

"You should try not to say that out loud, last time your mother nearly had a heart attack because of your Monalisa."

Derrick rolled his eyes.

"My mom is controlling. She doesn't understand that I'm old enough to make my own decisions. She wants me to be her puppet."

Mr Henderson sighed.

"Your mother is just very protective of you. All parents are like that. You should try to put yourself in her shoes for once "

Derrick sipped some more wine then began to play the piano once again trying to distract himself from thinking about Lillian. However the music didn't seem as good as before. He had lost concentration on what mattered to him. Mr Henderson tried to calm him down, they played until the music sounded good again.

Monah was visiting Tamara in her room. They were enjoying their free time with karaoke singing.

"Hey, did you notice how Lillian approached us back at the library?" Tamara asked, her brow furrowed in thought.

Monah nodded, her eyes narrowing as she tried to remember the encounter.

"She was really rude." Tamara pressed.

Monah leaned in, her voice lowering to a whisper. "I think she was being protective of her son. My dad gets like that sometimes."

"Don't make an excuse for her. She was rude. Plain and simple."

"So what should I do about that, tell Derrick his mother was rude. I mean he stayed in the car even though he knows how her mother would react when she would see me." Said Monah slightly irritable.

There was a slight silence between the two ladies.

"You should tell Derrick what his mother said. I don't think he knows that she was rude. I think maybe she lied to him and said she wanted to greet his friend's."

"I think we should stop talking about her and enjoy our day. What do you say?"

Tamara nodded her head slowly.

"Well okay. If you say so."

The two ladies continued with their singing game and won points.

It was late evening, Monah could not seem to sleep. Perhaps it was because she was alone in the room. Michelle was out with Ted. She didn't even want to think about what those two were doing. She had reasoned with herself that whatever they did together would not bother her anymore since she had long broken up with Ted.

The young woman switched on her laptop and logged into her social media account. She noticed that she had received a new message and so clicked on it. The sender was a fake account with no name, no profile picture and no indication as to who it was. She was about to dismiss it as spam, but something told her to read the message. And so she did exactly that.

"Hey Monah, I just wanted to reach out and apologize for my mom's behavior the other day. She's always been a bit...protective of me, and sometimes she doesn't know when to stop. I know she hurt your feelings, and I'm really sorry for that. Can we talk sometime and maybe clear the air?"

Monah was taken aback. She had not expected Derrick to be sending her a message on social media especially with a fake account. Even though she was slightly offensed by Lillian's rude behaviour, she had completely forgot about it. She felt guilty because she thought Derrick did not care about how his mother had spoken to her. He probably did not want to make a big scene, she thought. Monah took deep breaths before she could respond to her crush.

"How are you doing? I appreciate your apology. Your mom's behavior was definitely unexpected, but I understand where she's coming from. My dad is also protective of me. Can we maybe speak in person. Its late and I would like to wake up early tomorrow morning."

The message was taking a little longer to be sent through. The network was slow.

Monah kept biting her nails in anticipation. She even went to grab a cup of milk and drank it all. She returned to find that the message was sent. She exhaled in relief.

Derrick replied right away.

"Can I come by to your place before class starts?"

Monah felt a rush of excitement after reading that message. A wide smile covered her face. Her hands were starting to sweat. She was clueless as to how to respond. She shook her hands excitedly then exhaled.

"Uhm alright. You can come but male it quick. I don't want to be late for my class." She replied, then clicked on the send button.

The message indicated that it had been read.

Derrick sent a sticker of a good night message.

Monah was melting within her heart.

Monah's POV

Oh my word! I can't believe Derrick actually texted me just to apologize. I mean his mother was rude but I didn't really expect her wealthy son to apologize to me. I guess he really does care about me. I wonder why Derrick asked to come see me in the morning. If he tries to kiss me again, I'm afraid I'll get pregnant. Things might take an unexpected turn. But no Monah.. keep your self pure. No one will ever take my vorginity away unless I say so. However it would be nice to have someone as strong looking and as gentle as Derrick to break my virginity. I don't want just any man to touch me. It sure would be nice. But let me not go that far. I still have to see the kind of man he is. He's popular and rich. He might pretend to love me just as Ted pretends with Michelle.

When she was done thinking hard and long, Monah took a hot shower and prepared herself for an evening rest.
