The Crazy Sergeant

Thud!

Maya was dropped off at the back lines, somewhere safe from the chaos. She watched as Dean hovered above her, creating multiple energy spears.

Xiu!

The spears shot forward, stabbing into their targets and detonating almost instantly, reducing their corpses to a bloody mess.

"At best, these mutated beasts are a level three threat. With the help of the soldiers, we should be able to pin them down here, so don't do too much." Dean said while conjuring more spears.

Bang!

Bang!

Alex side-stepped, dodging the pounce attack of a mutated feral cat, and with a timely swing of his fist, he sent it hurling back like a cannonball. His punches crippled its target internally, causing them to cry out in pain for a couple of seconds before collapsing and dying.

The soldiers formed a tight perimeter, their energy guns humming with power as they aimed at the oncoming horde of mutated beasts.

"Hold the line!" Sergeant Major Collins barked, his voice a calm command amidst the chaos.

About twenty soldiers, dressed in their sleek black and white battle suits, stood their ground, eyes focused through the targeting scopes of their advanced rifles.

Phzzzz!

With a synchronized pull of their triggers, a volley of energy bolts was unleashed. The bolts were bright blue, cutting through the air with precision.

The first wave of beasts—mutated canines with elongated claws and glowing eyes—was met with a deadly barrage. The energy bolts struck their targets with pinpoint accuracy, searing through flesh and bone.

Several beasts collapsed instantly, their bodies smoking and lifeless before they hit the ground.

Roar!

A particularly large, mutated boar charged forward, its tusks glistening with blood. It was met with concentrated fire from three soldiers, their energy bolts burning through its thick hide and dropping it in its tracks.

"We need to push them back!" one of the soldiers yelled, her voice steady despite the tension.

"Covering fire!" another soldier called out. A team of four advanced, energy guns at the ready, while the others maintained suppressive fire.

Phzzzz!

The air was filled with the sharp sounds of energy weapons discharging. Mutated beasts fell in droves, their bodies piling up at the defensive line.

A mutated wolf leaped towards a soldier, jaws open wide. He ducked and rolled, coming up with his rifle aimed upward. A single shot took the beast out mid-air, its momentum carrying it forward before it crumpled to the ground.

"Watch your flanks!" Sergeant Major Collins ordered, noticing a group of mutated birds diving from above. The soldiers adjusted their aim, shooting the creatures out of the sky. Feathers and blood rained down as the birds fell, their bodies sizzling from the energy impact.

"Dean, we need more cover!" Maya shouted as she took in the scene.

"Hmph! Fine."

Dean, still hovering, nodded and sent another wave of energy spears into the fray, targeting the larger beasts that threatened to break through the soldiers' line.

The energy guns continued to fire relentlessly, their efficiency unmatched. The soldiers' discipline and the devastating power of their weapons held the mutated horde at bay.

Finally, as the last mutated beast fell, the battlefield grew quiet. The soldiers held their positions, scanning for any remaining threats. The air was thick with the smell of ozone and burnt flesh.

"Good work, everyone," Sergeant Major Collins said, his voice cutting through the aftermath.

"Hold this position. We've shown these beasts what happens when they face us."

Maya looked around, taking in the scene of destruction. The soldiers' contribution had been decisive, their coordination was the main reason they could stop this batch of beasts.

"Don't get too relaxed. Their reinforcement is here." Alex's voice was like a blade stabbing into Maya's heart.

"You just had to ruin the moment." Silver chuckled.

Thud!

Heavy footsteps approaching the gates could be heard. It wasn't plentiful like before, and it wasn't one person approaching either.

With knitted eyebrows, they watched as a man emerged from the gates with the two Stampede Bulls shielding his figure with their massive bodies, protecting him from the soldiers positioned at the watchtowers.

The man was dressed in an old, dirty cloak with a hoodie draped over his head. Underneath the cloak, his entire body was wrapped with dirty bandages, leaving only his blazing red eyes revealed for all to see.

"It's the beast whisperer, just as we suspected." Sergeant Major Collins spoke into his communication device, but there was no response.

"Doctor?" He called out again, but there was no response.

"Lower your guns and stand aside. Once I get what I came for, I will leave this place without harming a soul." The beast whisperer said in a raspy voice.

"What is he talking about?" Dean frowned and shot Sergeant Major Collins a glare but the man avoided his gaze.

"Don't let him fool you. Take your position, soldiers!" Sergeant Major Collins roared, ignoring Dean's question.

"What's going on?" Alex was confused as he saw the soldiers preparing for combat.

"This shit is messy." Silver chuckled before turning his attention to the Sergeant. "Pray you die in this conflict because I don't think you can withstand the Wrath of the Big Four."

Only after hearing those words did the face of the Sergeant show some fear, but after a few seconds it steeled with resolve.

If they succeeded, he would become a national hero and be recognized all across the world. Even the Big Four families would have to treat him with respect, and he wouldn't have to listen to children with zero life experiences just because they come from a noble family and possess abilities.

"FIRE!"

Phzzzz!

"Shit!" Alex roared as he jumped out of the way.

"Bold bastard!" Silver cursed as he flew out of the way!

This crazy Sergeant had just made a choice none of them expected.

Putting the lives of members of the Big Four at risk?

None of them saw this coming!
