Practicing the Stone Lotus Fighting Style

The next morning, Lucius decided to skip combat class, mostly because he didn't want to be around the God Set. He felt strangely irritated being near people who were analyzing his second identity and plotting to kill him, and what bothered him most were his instincts.

After listening to Silver speak about the animal nature of Black Death, Lucius gave the matter some thought and realized Silver was right. His actions so far were akin to that of an animal who just takes what he wants without any shred of guilt in regards to those affected by his actions.

While this nature of animals makes them extremely effective, the ability to feel remorse and understand the pains of others is what makes humans unique. Doesn't that mean he had lost what made him unique as a human?

Was the death of the old store owner really justified?

Staying with people who only criticized Black Death made him question his actions, and this was a dangerous sign. Uncertainty and indecision have killed so many great men in history. Lucius knew if he continued going down this path, it was only a matter of time before he became a victim of his conscience.

At that point, not only will he lose his life, but he will lose the chance to give slaves like him the opportunity to live a decent life.

"Their views are distorted by the privileges they grew up with. They can never understand the pains of the common man like me." Lucius muttered to himself on his way to the martial class.

[Humans are social animals, if you are unable to change someone you slowly become them. You are doubting your path because you have grown attached to these people.] Lyxor said.

Lucius only frowned at his words but didn't argue because it was true. If there wasn't any form of attachment, their opinions wouldn't matter to him.

He was losing his edge.

Soon after he arrived at the dojo, pleased by the serene atmosphere, filled with the calming scent of incense and the gentle hum of flowing water from a nearby stream. Since there was combat class that morning, the dojo was empty, so Luicus went straight to the main room where Master Zhang was meditating.

"You are here?" Master Zhang was stunned by Lucius's arrival.

"I am here to train Master…" Lucius gave the old man a bow before picking up a training attire.

Master Zhang watched his actions silently but said nothing. He could tell Lucius was troubled, and training was probably the best way for him to get this issue off his mind. He sat patiently, waiting for Lucius to change, and when he was done, he watched Lucius walk up to him with expectant eyes.

"Today, Lucius," Master Zhang began. "We will delve into the principles of the Stone Lotus fighting style. This technique combines the resilience of stone with the grace of a lotus, allowing you to withstand powerful blows while delivering precise and devastating counterattacks."

Lucius's eyes lit up as he stood ready, his posture respectful yet eager. However, Master Zhang motioned for him to move, and they both took positions on the tatami mats.

"The first principle of Stone Lotus is Rooted Stability," Master Zhang said, his feet planted firmly on the ground.

"Like a stone, you must be unmovable. Your stance must be solid, and grounded. Imagine roots growing from your feet deep into the earth. Feel the connection."

Lucius adjusted his stance, spreading his feet shoulder-width apart, and visualized roots anchoring him to the ground.

"The second principle is Fluid Motion," Master Zhang continued, demonstrating a series of flowing movements with his arms.

"Like a lotus floating on water, you must be adaptable and smooth. Your movements should be continuous, without breaks. Practice the flow, from one technique to the next."

"The third principle is Harmonious Balance." Master Zhang said, shifting seamlessly between defensive and offensive postures.

"Balance between offense and defense is crucial. You must be able to defend against an attack while preparing to strike back. Harmony in motion and intent." Master Zhang said sternly.

"Watch closely." Master Zhang said, as he demonstrated the Core Techniques of the Stone Lotus fighting style.

The first was the stone wall stance. It was a defensive stance designed to absorb and deflect incoming attacks, while the second was the lotus blossom strike, a precise, powerful strike aimed at vital points. Finally, the third was the flowing river parry, a technique used to redirect an opponent's attack by taking advantage of their momentum and force, creating openings for counterattacks.

"Incredible…" Lucius was stunned and impressed.

As long as he could master this technique coupled with his super strength, his need for his abilities would lessen considerably.

"Remember, Lucius, Stone Lotus is not just a fighting style. It is a philosophy. It teaches resilience, adaptability, and balance. Master these principles, and you will master yourself." Master Zhang said with a smile, satisfied with Lucius's reaction.

With the principles imparted, Master Zhang and Lucius stood facing each other, ready to spar. The air was thick with anticipation. Master Zhang bowed slightly, signalling the start.

Lucius took the Stone Wall Stance, his body solid and rooted. Master Zhang moved fluidly, testing Lucius's defenses with a series of swift strikes. Each blow was deflected, but Master Zhang's speed and precision kept Lucius on edge.

"Good, Lucius. Now, counter!" Master Zhang commanded.

Lucius transitioned to a Lotus Blossom Strike, aiming for Master Zhang's shoulder. In an instant, Master Zhang sidestepped, his hand guiding Lucius's arm past harmlessly. With a swift movement, Master Zhang tapped Lucius's back, sending him off balance.

"Balance, Lucius. Find your center."

They reset, and the sparring continued. Each time Lucius attacked, Master Zhang effortlessly countered, his movements a blur of practiced precision. Every mistake Lucius made was met with a correction.

"Your stance is too rigid. Loosen up."

"Flow with the movement, don't resist."

"Anticipate my strikes, don't just react."

Sweat poured down Lucius's face as he struggled to keep up, but with each correction, he improved. His stance became more stable, his movements more fluid, and his balance more harmonious. Master Zhang's relentless but patient guidance pushed him to refine every aspect of his technique.

After what felt like hours, Master Zhang finally halted the session. Lucius was exhausted but exhilarated, his body aching but his mind sharper.

"You've done well today, Lucius," Master Zhang said, his eyes reflecting a rare hint of approval.

Once again, he was deeply impressed by Lucius's learning speed.
