Chapter 9- Assistance

The Cheng Group of Industries is one of the leading companies in the apparel market, with its range varying across all ages. Headquartered in Beijing, this particular industry was ranked among the top five companies with the biggest turnover in Asia.

After inheriting the company from his father, the Chairman of the company, Cheng Wei, has expanded the spectrum of the work and increased the overall turnover twofold in the past six years. His business ethics earned him the Business China Excellence Award and the Uprising Youth Award two years ago.

While the man was quite ruthless in crushing down his opponents, he arranged numerous charity galas and donations to orphanages and NGOs to uplift the nation.

Given that the person sitting at the pinnacle of so many achievements would remain busy, just like right now.

"This is the monthly report you asked for, Boss." As the Divisional Chief of City B handed the documents, Cheng Wei narrowed his eyes on the paper.

It seems that for the past few months, some popular climate activists have been putting up allegations about the clothes the Cheng industry makes, forcing the public's views to change at a tremendous pace.

Generally, the CEO doesn't care about such trivial matters when they have such a high-scale company to handle. However, Cheng Wei prefers to deal with every troublesome matter by himself and guide his managers appropriately for better results.

He has already been betrayed once in the past, and his company incurred heavy losses. That's why he has begun to pay a little caution toward marketing divisions.

"In my opinion, we should start negotiating with those guys." The only person in the office room who could talk so naturally with Cheng Wei was his adviser and friend, Yong Wu.

The man with a lanky stature and long black hair was the same person whom Cheng Wei called from the hospital regarding the divorce paper.

Yong Wu attained his law degree two years ago and has been working for Cheng Wei ever since. Both of them have been friends since high school, and that's why Yong Wu didn't feel guilty taking advantage of his friendship to ask for a job opportunity.

Now, the role of Yong Wu has become so well-known that every time an employee anticipates the boss's wrath, they seek help from Yong Wu.

Cheng Wei's sword-like brows were knitted closer as he looked at the report with numerous thoughts swirling in his mind. He has already prepared some countermeasures to these types of situations; however, seeing the growing severity, he was planning for a new method.

However, much to his displeasure, his phone rang.

However, as soon as he looked at the person calling him, his frown disappeared in an instant, and what appeared there was pure surprise.

"Hmm?" Yong Wu raised his brows as his interest piqued. However, before he could have leaned toward Cheng Wei and taken a glance at the number calling, the man stood up from his seat.

"Excuse me." Excusing himself, Cheng Wei didn't bat an eye toward the others and made his way outside the office room with slightly hurried steps.

Just the moment his feet landed outside, his finger traced the green icon, and he heard the voice that the person could hear all day long without getting tired,

[Mr. Cheng. The place where we live is out of the taxi reach, you knew that?]

Hearing Xiao Mei's slightly annoyed tone, Cheng Wei was taken aback before he replied, "Yes, I know. The rule was implied recently."

[Haah...why, though? Well, forget it. I will ask for Yuyu to come over, after all.]

Cheng Wei remained silent at that before he asked in an uncertain tone, "If you're okay with it, then I will send Uncle Lu to drive you to your friend's place."

Xiao Mei was aware of this person named Lu Hang, who also drove Cheng Wei's car—that's why he suggested him.

It was already surprising that Xiao Mei was going outside to meet her friend, that's why Cheng Wei tried his luck to provide her assistance.

Little did he expect her to accept his suggestion,

[Really? Thank you, Mr. Cheng.]

And with that, the call was disconnected.

Cheng Wei remained standing at his spot for a good minute. His eyes trained on his phone without a word leaving his lips.

What no one saw was the thin smile formed on his lips before he decided to walk back into the office.

Soon, Xiao Mei found a car arriving at the entrance of the mansion before she greeted the old man driving the car and sat in the backseat.

'Haah...it feels so comfortable...' In the last life, Xiao Mei has only experienced driving the car, so he seldom enjoyed the sensation of traveling at leisure.

'I am meeting her after so long...should I take some gift?' Xiao Mei inwardly thought, but she soon shook her head.

Taking a gift would make it feel like Xiao Mei was being formal with her friend. Although Xiao Mei had to buy gifts for her in-laws, she decided to make that shopping trip with a person who knew them well.

Well, of course, it was Cheng Wei.

'I wonder how surprised he would be once I suggest a shopping date...' A mischievous grin spread across her lips as she decided the conversation for tonight's dinner.
