CHAPTER 30: ANOTHER PROBLEM

Amna finally broke the silence. "You..." she started, her eyes still fixed on Shahmeer's.

"What?" Shahmeer replied, his voice low and calm, his eyes never leaving hers.

Amna's heart raced with anticipation. "I mean, what are you doing here?" she asked, trying to sound friendly and curious.

Shahmeer's expression didn't change. "What's that mean?" he replied, his voice still calm and collected.

Shahmeer said " i live here."

Amna felt a surge of surprise. "I live there too, from now on," she said, trying to sound friendly.

Amna's eyes widened in surprise. "Next door?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Shahmeer nodded again, his expression unchanging.

Amna tried to make conversation. "I'm your new neighbor," she said, forcing a smile.

But Shahmeer just grunted, his eyes still fixed on hers, his silence making her feel like she was invisible.

The lift finally reached the ground floor, and Shahmeer got out, his long strides carrying him quickly across the lobby. Amna watched as he got into a sleek black car and drove away, feeling a sense of disappointment wash over her.

Why had Shahmeer been so dismissive? Why had he made her feel like she was bothering him?

As she walked out of the building, Amna couldn't help but wonder if she had misread their working relationship. Had she been too friendly?

The questions swirled in her mind as she walked away, feeling a sense of unease that she couldn't shake off.

After the end of the day, Amna was washing up for bed when suddenly, the water shut off. She tried the faucet again, but nothing came out. She checked the pipes, but everything seemed fine. Just as she was starting to get frustrated, she remembered that Shahmeer lived next door.

Taking a deep breath, she knocked on his door. Shahmeer opened it, looking at her with a hint of surprise.

"My washroom doesn't have water," Amna explained. "Can I use yours?"

Shahmeer's expression turned cold. "Why should I help you?" he asked gruffly.

Amna was taken aback. "Please, I'll just be a minute," she said, trying to convince him.

Shahmeer raised an eyebrow.

Amna felt a surge of desperation. "Please, Shahmeer, I have no other choice," she said, trying to appeal to him.

Shahmeer sighed, but eventually nodded. "Fine, but be quick."

Amna thanked him and rushed into his apartment, relieved to find that his washroom was still working. She quickly washed up, but as she was getting out of the shower, her foot slipped on a soap bar that had been left on the floor.

As she fell, everything went black...
