A pact of redemption

Stunned silence hung over the subterranean temple in the wake of the dragon's monstrous emergence. Gathering her courage, Jacqueline stepped forward, clutching her crucifix as she met the baleful crimson gaze.

"We mean you no harm, ancient one...we stumbled here by accident." She kept her voice low and even. Behind her, she heard Lucia whispering frenzied prayers. "If you are bound to this chamber, let us help break that curse."

A rasping chuckle echoed from the gleaming obsidian walls. "You reek of mortal fear...yet offer me freedom?" The dragon arched its sinuous neck, serpentine tongue tasting the air. "What makes you think such potential lies within your power?"

Jacqueline's pulse raced, but she stood firm. "I serve the Light. A pact made in good faith can work wonders beyond our mortal skills." From the corner of her eye, she saw Father Gabriel nod solemnly.
