Maxwell immediately dispatched his only third-tier zombie to engage in combat.
The two zombies instantly tangled into a fray.
Maxwell's third-tier zombie was indeed formidable, forcing its opponent to continuously retreat.
Most mutated zombies focus on enhancing their physical attributes, which includes toughening their skin and bones and improving their speed, usually evolving towards either strength or agility. Only a very few mutated zombies possess other abilities, somewhat similar to an evolver's special abilities.
For now, Maxwell's third-tier zombie, like its adversary, was strength-based; their fight was marked by direct, brutal blows.
At that moment, another mutated zombie from the opposition started to move.
This one was clearly faster and moved with greater agility, not just charging through the crowd but skillfully running over the tops of other zombies' heads, swift as the wind.
Moreover, its target was Maxwell.
By the time Maxwell noticed it, it was less than a meter away from him.
The creature lunged at Maxwell, its mouth brimming with sharp teeth.
Maxwell didn't have time to think and swung a punch directly at it.
However, before his fist could connect with the mutated zombie, a burst of flames suddenly shot out from the side, striking it squarely and sending it flying.
Maxwell's punch missed its mark, and he turned around in surprise.
Carline?
Was that burst of flames thrown by Carline?
Maxwell remembered clearly, outside the second food town, he saw an evolver setting fires that engulfed much of the town, prompting Maxwell to leave.
Wasn't that evolver Carline?
Carline's evolved ability must definitely be related to fire!
Moreover, Maxwell remembered that on that second floor of the small building, Carline's "Flame Burst" hadn't even been fully unleashed before it scared away those three scoundrels, clearly indicating its terrifying power.
Unexpectedly, after becoming a zombie, Carline had still retained her special abilities!
Thinking of this, Maxwell quickly retrieved the staff and the thin sword from his storage space, combined them into one, and handed them back to Carline.
"Carline, this is for you! Do you remember this?"
Carline took the elongated staff, her gaze emotionlessly sweeping over Maxwell.
Just then, the mutated zombie that had been blasted away by the flames charged at them again.
Although it had been hit by the flames and burned for a while, it hadn't died that easily.
After all, although most zombies lack special abilities, the higher their level, the tougher their skin and bones become, making them incredibly resilient.
Otherwise, how could they possibly contend with evolvers?
Carline, wielding her weapon, gently tapped it towards the zombie.
A burst of intense flames shot out from her staff again, striking the mutated zombie.
Maxwell watched in astonishment as Carline wielded the staff—could it be akin to a mage's wand?
However, inside Carline's staff was also a thin sword—could it be that the sword was meant for close combat?
Maxwell speculated.
"Don't just stand there, keep throwing zombies over!"
Seeing Carline gaining the upper hand in the fight, Maxwell felt it was inappropriate to waste precious time doing nothing. He instructed another first-tier female zombie to continue working.
As for the previously halved mutated male zombie, Maxwell had put it back into his space where it could slowly heal its injuries.
A few minutes later, the battle on both sides was nearing its end, and the two mutated zombies began to falter.
"They're probably going to run!" Maxwell thought.
He stopped his actions and drew his Tang sword, charging towards the mutated zombie that was battling his third-tier male zombie.
Eva closely followed him, striking down any other zombies that dared to approach with her sleeve sword, which Maxwell then promptly tossed into the fusion space.
"Eva, block him, don't let him escape!" Maxwell shouted as he slashed at the mutated zombie.
Already struggling against Maxwell's third-tier male zombie and retreating step by step, the mutated zombie, seeing Maxwell coming at him with a sword, decided to turn and flee decisively.
A smirk appeared on Maxwell's face.
His frontal attack was meant to force the mutated zombie to choose to flee, playing right into Maxwell's plans.
He had been creating an opportunity for Eva.
Sure enough, Eva appeared directly in the path of the fleeing mutated zombie, her sleeve sword striking swiftly, accurately, and fiercely into the forehead of the mutated zombie.
The mutated zombie emitted a shrill and pitiful scream, and Maxwell's third-tier male zombie seized the opportunity to rush over and pin it underfoot.
Maxwell didn't give the mutated zombie any chance to resist and quickly captured it into his space.
This fellow, hit by the sleeve sword, seemed about to die instantly—so swift and ruthless was Eva's strike!
The guy was barely captured, and Maxwell eagerly checked its level.
The check was a pleasant surprise—level 35!
This was a third-tier zombie!
"Quick, go help Carline, we can't let that big guy get away!" Maxwell hurriedly instructed.
He released the third-tier mutated zombie that had just been under his command. As soon as it came out, it clearly had regained its full strength.
Space is so awesome!
No matter what kind of zombie, the first time they are captured into Maxwell's space, they instantly recover to their peak strength.
However, if the injury was sustained after the zombie had already become one of Maxwell's, then upon being returned to the space, the injury would not immediately heal but would require some time.
That's why the previous first-tier male zombie, which was only half intact, did not immediately recover.
Eva, along with two third-tier male zombies, one first-tier female zombie, plus Maxwell, broke through the zombie horde and surrounded the extremely fast mutated zombie.
Realizing that the situation was unfavorable, the zombie decided to flee.
Although it was fast, it was not faster than Carline.
Carline changed tactics, no longer using flames to attack but instead blocking its escape route. Forced to slow down, the zombie could not utilize its speed and was quickly surrounded by Maxwell and his group of zombies.
Maxwell commanded several zombies to beat it until it was nearly done for, then he captured it into his space.
This was a second-tier mutated zombie.
Moreover, its appearance was exceptionally ferocious and terrifying. Surprisingly, this hideously ugly creature turned out to be a female zombie!
Well, that's really something...
Who knows what it went through during its transformation to end up looking like this!
