"No… I can. As long as it's full enough, I don't fear anything."
"You... what have you done?" I said, horrified.
"YOU CAN'T TAKE IT AWAY FROM ME! IT'S MINE! MINE!!!" Crazily screamed Emily,
struggling vehemently to free herself.
"You don't understand! It's dangerous!"
" No! You are lying. You are just like them, a LIAR!
"Hey, look at me." I said, grabbing her chin to force her to concentrate on what I was going to say. "This, the thing you call home, is a death trap; however much you feed it, it will only result in you sharing the same fate as those poor animals you sacrificed."
"You'll gain nothing from the atrocities you committed... and this is no home. Stop lying to yourself."
If at first I felt sympathy for the little girl, thinking she shared the same ill-fated story as me, I soon felt disinterested. No sob story deserved the cruelties inflicted on those innocent animals.
She had the choice not to. She knew the consequences and the reasons.
She knew that she was doing something bad, but that didn't stop her; she was too obsessed with maintaining her illusion of her dream home. What Emily did was selfish and cruel, and I didn't defend this behavior, whatever the excuse.
Using another spell, I put her to sleep before focusing on the still-sobbing Mimi.
"You knew what she was doing... When the two of you captured those animals…you knew what their fates would behold?"
"N-n-no, I didn't... I just wanted to play with my friends…please …don't hurt me-wawawawa!" She cried louder.
- 'sigh' What am I meant to do now?
"Okay…stop crying." I said, a little harsher than intended.
I sighed a second time before lifting her into my arms, hugging her weak figure.
"It's fine. I believe you. Now tell me everything you know…"
....
Two hours later, I was in one of the Blackfaction stations in the city, recounting the previous events and my investigations.
I made a complete written report—with again the help of magic—on my way there, from the beginning of the case to the closure of it.
In the end, I didn't really get to visit the neighborhood, but I still accomplished my mission.
As for the little girls, the black canva—the equivalence of police in this world—was responsible for taking care of them.
They had called Mimi's parents—that I didn't get to meet, by the way—to discuss the child's case.
And for Emily, she was to be detained until her trial, two months later. At best, she would spend a few months doing work of general interest since she was still a child and didn't exceed the minimum required age for detention, which begins at twelve.
At worst, she would attract public wrath—having stolen aristocrats' animals and used a forbidden anomaly without reporting it, endangering the lives of other people—and take the maximum charge for a minor: exile.
But that was not my business anymore…I had done my missions, and I was now going back to the dormitory.
Thinking about everything that happened those last days, I felt quite…out of place.
Not that it was much different from all the bizarre and horrible stuff that happened to me since I came into this world, but only this time, it felt different, guess?
As the days passed, I found myself changing more and more while the traces of Mira Adeline Kross began to disappear.
- makes me feel nostalgic, I thought while sighing for the tenth time today.

Deciding to first go grab some food, I went to a nearby restaurant.
It was a lovely restaurant, giving off a homey vibe. On the wall, over the principal door, was written "Welcome to Girri!" in big yellow letters, contrasting with the pale pink paint.
I looked around to see if there were pre-made menus, just like in my original world.
It was like a life experience about the cultural differences between two countries—seeing what one did that the other didn't.
Sadly for me, I found no signs of any paper signs or whatsoever. Not even a blackboard.
- seems like I will have to ask...
Sitting at an empty table, I discreetly checked the people inside.
On my right, in the second row, were a cute little pre-adult couple. They looked like newlyweds, being so mushy.
Next to them stood a large table of ten to twelve people—probably a friend group. A really big one. And they looked to be my age, probably students from another academy.
A little farther in the back, I could see other typical clients.
"What are you doing here?"
Hearing Sylvester's voice, my heart skipped a beat.
Ah, he's going to torture me again!
I turned around, greeting him with a kind smile.
" Nothing. What about you?"
"I had a mission nearby. How is yours going on?"
"I just finished it."
"That's good. I just had another mission for you... But this time, it will be a team mission. You and me."
" Huh? Why? ...No, I mean, what kind of mission?"
"It's not really a mission, at least not a public one." He began, taking a more serious tone.
"A few days ago, we heard from our private sources about the appearance of some anomalies within our academy."
"The directive board is thinking that it might be the work of a mysterious group of terrorists: the Flurkaw."
" What? A mysterious group of terrorists? Within the academy's walls? And nobody has been informed!?"
" No. We can't take the risk of letting people know."
"And I am supposed to help the academy deal with it?"
"Not exactly. They can't let students do something so dangerous. We are only charged with investigations. Nothing more, don't worry !"
- DON' T WORRY!? Is he fucking with me!?
From the very moment I attended this damn school, I had to use all my time working for them.
They took my position as a student as a tool to use me.
And now, they want me—a freshman—to jump in an obviously lousy case!?
Do they think I am stupid!??
Stopping myself from swearing, I tried my best to maintain my calm.
I knew people from this world were crazy, but I didn't expect them to slave away a child.
I smiled, my temper still threatening to explode. "And you are going to do that with me?"
" Yes. I am going to be your mentor until the end of the mission."
