Chapter 15: Back in Time (corrected)

Walking slowly through the long corridor, I soon heard strange voices.

They were the first people I encountered since I sneaked in the mansion.

"No, no, please."

Making sure to conceal myself, I took a glance inside the room.

Inside were two men, one laying on the floor, bleeding profusely, and the other standing with one leg on the other's stomach.

"Shut up."

"Please, my lord, I can still be useful."

" You? A cockroach like you would be useful?"

"I beg you!" He cried tirelessly.

"Yes, … Yes, you are useful." The other man began to say before suddenly slashing the laying's man neck.

The man, who still had a look of happiness, thinking he was saved, had his head separated cleanly from his body.

I trembled, terrified. Warm tears were falling down while I stumbled, trying to take a step back.

The man who heard me turned towards the door.

Thinking I would be caught, I quickly moved towards a random room.

My body trembled incessantly, horrified by what I saw, but I didn't move an inch.

I waited in the dark room, praying he wouldn't know I was there.

Time passed slowly, and soon I couldn't fight back the stress, fainting directly.

...

Waking up, I was in my dormitory room again.

My body was sweaty and uncomfortable.

Reliving the events of that night probably took a toll on my mental health.

I didn't remember what happened after, but I had come back safely, unharmed, and whole.

I never tried to know what happened, though. I didn't have the leisure to.

Soon after the incident, before I could recover and figure out how I should process it, my mother felt badly ill.

Then I had to take care of Ricardo, who felt like my responsibility since I recovered my past memories and was still a child, both internally and outwardly.

Moreover, to save my mother from death, I had to begin my training as one of the succecors to get money and buy medicine.

The man I had as a father didn't care about our lives. We were like dirt under his eyes; he wouldn't give a penny to dirt.

I sighed, tired of those nightmares.

I was tired of all this life, actually.

Having been reborn as Gorgia must have been the worst thing ever happening to me.

Since I had this identity, I only attracted troublesome and cumbersome people.

I had to sacrifice everything to survive.

Stopping my thoughts, I closed the door and went to the cafeteria.

Today again, I didn't find Aaron in our usual spot. He must have been in the barracks.

As for Sylvester, still no knews.

Anyway, I didn't have time for the mission today. I had a big test to do in my history class—the first one since the beginning of the semester.

I had revised a lot for this test so as not to fall below the other students.

Apart from the points, I also had to sustain an above-average grade to ensure I would get my diploma in the next three years.

Those were the inconveniences of attending senior year as a completely new student in the education system

Sometimes I wish I could just strangle my brother!

Anyway, I didn't worry too much about it. While I was new—in name and reality—to the system of education in this world, I was still an ex-straight-A student. I had the aptitude to do well.

Five minutes later, after finishing my breakfast, I was walking towards my first class.

It was "magic beast taming," a class that we weren't expecting to succeed in but still had to attend.

As we were mage, magic beast taming didn't fall under our jurisdiction, but we still had to understand their behavior. It was like a prevention thing.

I was tediously reading my book, a masterpiece I bought from the shopping district, while walking through the corridors of the Tamers faction.

From what I could understand, while the beasts had the physical traits and attributes of normal animals, they worked and evolved differently from them.

They had sharp minds and were more aware of the human race, even in their lower forms.

In this world, the magic beasts were born with higher intelligence but could not use magic until their own « consciousness » really evolved. We called that the transition from the lower to the final form.

Well, it was actually a bit more complicated than that, but I still couldn't really understand.

I continued to read my book while slowly moving forward.

Still, even though I tried not to mind, I could feel the gazes directed towards me.

It was something that became quite usual these days, as I spent a lot of time with Sylvester.

At first, people seemed to completely ignore my existence, but the presence of the handsome man seemed to make them unable not to notice me.

Which I found unpleasant, by the way.

It was like having cameras pointed at you for twenty-four hours on twenty-four hours. I had to always mind my etiquette and behavior.

Soon, I finally arrived. I was exactly on time for the beginning of the conference.

My professor, Danny Ketchman, was a middle-aged man known for his ability to explain.

He was really popular at the academy, as he was both handsome and kind.

He wore a big pair of glasses, an all-black suit, and had his hair slicked back with gel.

He looked like a demon, or that kind of thing.

"Goodmorning, students!"

" Goodmorning!" Everyone replied.

His class, consisting of the magic faction and the tamer faction, was always an interesting and cheerful one.

"Today, we will first analyze the pattern and behavior of the beasts in category five before going promptly to the field."

The beasts, as per say, were categorized into ten groups.

The first five were the ones usually found on the continent and less threatening.

They consisted of different races and species, like felines and so on.

As for the last ten, they were the ones usually found in the unknown territory where no human has ever gone.

They were like Pokémon's.

They were known for their dangerousness and corrupted spirits. The only way to tame one was to use 'white' magic to purify them.

Only no tamers or mages had white magic, but exclusively the disciples of the church.

"As you all know, the last category of the five categories contains the more dangerous creatures seen on the continent. If one would think they were less threatening because they were in the five categories, they would be wrong."

"The only reason they are in the first five categories is because they are not corrupted and do not need a large amount of manpower. But for a tamer to tame one, he'll still need sufficient strength and power."

"That's why we will have to observe how they react in real-life situations."
