I lay in his arms, spent but content, the warmth of his embrace almost addictive. Even as my body ached with the desire to feel him inside me once more, the memory of Desi suddenly flooded into my mind, a cold intrusion into our heated moment.

"Is everything okay?" Drex asked, gently lifting my chin to meet his gaze, his eyes flickered with concern.

I fought against my better judgment, the words catching in my throat before I finally blurted out, "Can you speak to the dead?" A blush crept up my cheeks, feeling foolish for even asking such a question.

Drex's expression shifted slightly. "I can," he began slowly, "but it's complicated. I am not their final companion. I simply escort them to their afterlife, whatever it may be." There was a tinge of apprehension in his voice, a subtle tightening around his eyes as he looked at me.
